AbstractFollowing the CIE guidelines for coordinated research on colour‐difference evaluation, sets of dyed wool samples were produced near each of the five CIE reference colours, the colour differences within each set ranging from 1 to 9 CIE‐LAB units. Ratio assessments were used to determine discrimination ellipsoids for illuminants D65and A. Ratio and grey‐scale assessments involving pairs from all five colours were used to bring the visual data onto a common scale consistent with previous results. The ellipsoids for the red and green centres were compared with those obtained previously for the same centres. The agreement was rather better for the green colour, even though the substrates and sizes of colour‐differences were different in this case. The chromaticity‐discrimination ellipses generally agreed well with those obtained earlier for similar colours. The CMC (1 : 1) formula agreed better with the experimental results than did the CIELA

AbstractDifferences between chromatic adaptation and color constancy are discussed, in order to call into question the commonly held view that chromatic adaptation is the mechanism of color constancy. Whereas chromatic adaptation requires many seconds of time and occurs for simple visual scenes, color constancy asserts itself immediately and is most powerful in complex visual scenes. Furthermore, models of chromatic adaptation are not so illuminant invariant as other models of color vision. 摘要:
AbstractPolymer liquid crystals produce color by light interference from their molecular layers. The colors show additive properties, are highly saturated, have an expanded color gamut, and change with angle of viewing. They produce more stable and durable coatings than most other liquid crystals and they adhere well to the substrate. Experimental work was carried out confirming the above properties. It has been also demonstrated that the spectral reflectance of colored substrates can be modified by coating them with polymer liquid crystals. In addition to painting and sculpture they are also of interest in a wide variety of decorative uses and in light transmission applications such as in stained glass. Examples using these materials are shown and discussed.

AbstractThe question of a fundamental aesthetics and, derivable from it, a harmony based on rational principles, is an old one. A remarkable attempt at an answer is that provided some 100 years ago by the French “psychobiophysicist” Charles Henry (1859–1926). In 1888 he published a color circle and an aesthetic protractor with which a systematic evaluation of colors and forms for their aesthetic qualities was possible. Both the circle and the protractor, were based on Henry's psychophysiological principles of dynamogeny and inhibition. A theory of rhythm was added by Henry related to prime numbers or their reciprocal fractions. Thus, an aesthetics founded upon what Henry considered to be sound scientific principles resulted. AbstractAn expression is derived for the spectral radiance factor of a thick sample of material which scatters and absorbs light, and to which has been added a fluorescent dye. It is also shown how to work backwards, calculating absorption and emission spectra of the dye from measurements on dyed and undyed samples. This theory has practical application in colorant formulation, and examples using up to three dyes to colour paper are discussed.
