AbstractSeveral color spaces utilize angular measures of hue:for example, CIE 1976 u, v hue‐angle; CIE 1976 a, b hueangle. Such measures are not amenable to conventional statistical analysis, unless a categorization of hue‐angles has previously been decided upon, in which case nonparametric tests are appropriate. In this article we present two recently established methods that are appropriate for the parametric statistical analysis of hue‐angle data from two or more samples: [i] a test of the equality of angular variances; [ii]a test of the equality of mean angles. These tests may be performed easily on a microcomputer and produce statistics conforming approximately to well known distributions. We envisage that the tests will be of interest to psychologists and others working in the field of color research. © 1992 John Wiley&Son

AbstractA way has been found to plot the mixture data of a protanope or a deuteranope on a constant luminance mixture diagram to show that the confusion lines are parallel to the line tangent to the red end of the spectrum locus. In the case of a tritanope the confusion lines are parallel to each other on a constant luminance diagram. These constant luminance diagrams are projective transformations of the CIExy diagram. My confusion lines converge close to the copunctal points located by Walraven on the CIE diagram. © 1992 John Wiley&Sons, Inc

AbstractNumerical methods for estimating colorimetric integrals using various data intervals are reviewed. Accuracy of Newton‐Cotes and Gaussian numerical integration algorithms are compared. Tables of calorimetric data for performing Gauss‐Legendre integration are presented. Appropriate numerical examples are presented and applicability to general and special cases is discussed. the B‐spline method of integration is presented. Errors of integration are quantified and discussed. © 1992 John Wiley&Son

AbstractThis article quantifies errors arising from various integration methods and from sampling density in the numerical estimation of colorimetric integrals, e.g., tristimulus values. Both data sampling density and various numerical integration method errors will be distinguished. AbstractThe Colour Measurement Committee [CMC] formulas for color‐difference acceptability do not describe ellipsoids in CIELAB space, but the literature describes the acceptability surfaces as ellipsoids. It turns out that the discrepancy does not affect computational results [as long as the CMC parameter c is 1]. However, if the ellipsoid equations were substituted for the existing quartic formulas, the possibility for conceptual confusion would be much reduced. © 1992 John Wiley&Sons, I

This article describes the inclusion of the Colorcurve, SCA 2541, and HunterLab systems, expansion of the DIN and RAL implements, extension of the NCS aim point database, improvements to the OSA‐UCS and Coloroid conversion algorithms, a direct spectral curve input facility, and the inclusion of CIELAB, CIELUV, HunterLab, CMC[1:1], FMC‐1, and FMC‐2 colourdifference formulas. © 1992 John Wiley&Son
