摘要:
The Color Harmony Manual is a color atlas based on the Ostwald color system and widely used for color selection and specification for several decades beginning in 1942. It has been out of print since 1972; however, many libraries have a copy of the third or fourth edition. This is a report on the history, the colorimetric basis and specification, and the use of the several editions of the Manual. Included are representative colorimetric datafor the third edition. The Ostwald hue triangles and a color solid made with them portray and help explain the sensory world of color. Important sequences, the clears, lie on the outside surface of the solid. Color scales of equal blackness and whiteness are defined. Comparisons are made with the designs of the color charts in other atlases. An appendix concerning the third edition discusses a Descriptive Color Names Dictionary, availability of matching paints, a set of artists' colors, and production details of the colors.

摘要:
The model of Boynton and Kambe was used to analyze wavelength discriminationfunctions measured in the fovea by McCree. The long‐wavelength portions of these functions. which were measured with several field sizes at three different luminance levels. are described well by the model. Thresholds decrease with increasing field size. but the relationship between threshold and field size is dependent on the color of the test stimulus. Two factors. summation and opponent‐mechanism adaptation. appear to affect the relationship. These two factors can be described with variations in the two coefficients of the Boynton and Kambe equation for red‐green discrimina

摘要:
Since the adoption of the color spaces CIELAB and CIELUV by the CIE in 1976, several other uniform spaces have been developed. We studied most of these spaces and evaluated their uniformity for small as well as larger color differences. Therefore, several criteria have been defined based on color discrimination data and appearance systems. The main difference between color spaces based on discrimination data and spaces that model appearance systems is reflected in a different size of the chroma distance unit compared with the lightness unit. If spaces based on the same kind of data (discrimination data or appearance systems) are compared with each other, they are all almost equally uniform. BFD (l:c), for example, is said to be more uniform than CMC(l:c), but, based on confidence intervals of 65%, there is no significant difference between them. If the proposed color difference formula of the CIE is compared with these distance functions, it also performs equally well. The SVF space and OSA 90 space on the other hand should be better than OSA 74. However, as opposed to what was expected, OSA 74 is slightly better; but, also in this case, the difference between the spaces is insignificant.

摘要:
Spacing defined by various Munsell hue and chroma steps are analyzed, applying diagrams resulting from transformations between the Colorid and the Munsell color systems, displaying colors of both color systems with the same Y tristimulus values. After comments on spacings derived from identities, similarities and differences between both color systems, unevennesses uninter‐pretable from differences of color system constructions are attributed either to uniform variation of color stimult followed by uneven variation of color perceptions, or to uncertainties of human color perception at several spots of the color space sufficient to be noticeable in spacings in perceptually uniform color system, such as the Munsell color order system © 1994 John Wiley&Sons, i

摘要:
Many artists and scientists have been concerned, throughout time, with the correspondences between color and sound. Numerous studies on the subject have been written. There are approaches based on intuition as well as approaches based on psychology, psychophysics, physics, and physiology The classical comparison relies on the fact that the stimuli for the sensations of pitch in sound and hue in color are mainly determined by the wavelength of the auditory energy and the visible energy. both taken as undulatory phenomena. On this basis. a comparison is usually drawn between the chromatic scale of sounds and the hue circle. This criterion has been followed to such extent to relate a sound of specific frequency with a determined spectral color. The comparison can be expanded and refined by considering the other variables of sound and color. too. This article relates luminosity of color with loudness of sound. saturation of color with timbre of sound, and size of color with duration of sound. There are psychological and physical arguments to support such a comparison. © 1994 John Wiley&Sons, Inc
