摘要:
The larval stages of the acorn barnaclesChamaesipho columna, Chamaesipho brunnea, Elminius plicatus, Elminius modestus, Balanus trigonus, andTetraclita purpurascensare described from larvae reared in the laboratory. A key and a table are included for separating larval stages and species.

摘要:
Specimens of theAcartiasubgenusAcartiurawhich are closely related toA. clausiiGiesbrecht, 1889 were examined from European waters, the east and west coasts of the United States, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The speciesA. ensiferaBrady, 1899 andA. simplexSars, 1905 are redescribed,A, hudsonicaPinhey, 1926 is elevated from subspecific to specific status, and five new species (A. jilletti, A. lefevreae, A. omorii, A. teclae, andA. tranteri) are described. A key is given to all known species ofAcartiura.

摘要:
Adults of three species of common intertidal gastropods,Melagraphia aethiops, Zediloma atrovirens, andLunella smaragda, were collected from Waitemata Harbour, Auckland (36° 51 S, 174° 47 E) and brought to the laboratory, where several methods of artificial spawning were attempted throughout the year. The one successful method, involving vigorous water movement around ripe adults, induced them to release gametes during their respective spawning seasons, and was equally effective in the natural habitat. Larval stages were found in the plankton only during periods of on‐shore wind speeds greater than 10 knots, with which their presence was correlated, rather than with tides, lunar cycles, or sea temperatures.

摘要:
Two new species of Sipuncula arc described from New Zealand;Phascolion temporariaefrom, the empty tubes of the polychaeteTemporaria inexpectata(Mestayeri), andPhascolion tortumfrom the shells of four species of molluscs. Specimens ofGolfingia improvisa(Theel) are also reported from the empty frustules of the foraminiferanAmmodiscoides mestayeri(Cushman) and the sandy tubes of the foraminiferaRhizamminasp. All the species were dredged at depths of 370–660 m from Taiaroa and Papanui Canyons, off the Otago Peninsula, New Zealand. The body cavity of several specimens ofG. improvisacontained the larval stage of a nematode.

摘要:
The sporozoanThelohania contejeaniHenneguy (Microsporida: Nosematidae) is recorded fromParanephrops zealandicus(White) for the first time. It is an intracellular parasite invading musculature throughout the crayfish, causing a gradual decrease in locomotor activity, and it may eventually cause the death of the host. Infected crayfish were found in the northern part of Leith Stream, Dunedin, where the infection rate reached a maximum of 20%. This parasite has formerly been recorded only from Northern Europe.
