摘要:
Some recently introduced concepts of multiple criteria decision making (MCDM), such as the range of compromise and its use in dimensionless weighting of the objectives, are employed to formulate machining recommendations under multiple machining criteria. Two approaches are presented and applied to the machining of 390 die cast aluminum alloy. The first is a graphical presentation of nondominated solutions from which an appropriate solution can be chosen under varying applications, requirements, and priorities. The second is the formulation of a composite function of the objectives through dimensionless weighting to select the optimum machining variables under given aspiration levels for the machining criteria.

摘要:
A branch-compression dynamic programming approach is developed to investigate the degree of repeated inspection resulting in minimal expected quality control cost in a special class of nonserial production processes. The total cost includes inspection and reworking costs at each stage of the process, plus a penalty cost due to defective product which is not detected by the inspection scheme.

摘要:
It is well documented that pure network problems can be solved from 10 to 100 times faster using specialized primal simplex software as compared to general linear programming systems. For multi-commodity network flow problems, the computational savings are a function of the number of tight-side constraints. In this study, we present three real-world multicommodity models and data concerning the number of tight-side constraints. We also present the results of a computational study on a set of 25 randomly generated test problems which have a wide range of number of tight-side constraints. We conclude that a specialized multicommodity network code is three times as fast as a general code, while a specialized network with general side constraints code has twice the speed of a general LP code.

摘要:
Energy is an important component of the total productivity question and since its costs have been increasing faster than the rate of inflation, its importance is growing over time. As with most productivity measurement, energy productivity is difficult to monitor due to lack of metering and lack of data on “standard energy costs.” Also, manufacturers differ greatly in their energy use profile due to such variables as location, weather, number of people, product, manufacturing intensity, and a host of others. This paper examines energy productivity monitoring and control measurement systems. Standard “one-shot” efficiency measures are examined and then some unique ideas and more sophisticated computer programs (BLAST and DOE II) for calculating standard energy costs are presented and discussed.

摘要:
The economic order quantity (EOQ) has long been used by practitioners as a rule of thumb for setting order quantities on the basis of the commonly held assumption that the EOQ is a very robust result. That is, as many authors have stated, the EOQ appears to be quite insensitive to errors in the specification of the appropriate cost parameters and forecast of demand. This paper demonstrates that the EOQ is indeed insensitive to errors in the cost parameters, but, contrary to the conventional wisdom, the EOQ can be quite sensitive to forecast errors whenever the lead time is nonzero. This important caveat is illustrated by a number of examples.

摘要:
Discrete transform theory has previously been shown to offer many operational advantages in the computation of the present worths of discrete cash-flow patterns. This paper extends its application to equipment replacement models. Terborgh's classical model is used as the basis. An after-tax analysis using the latest depreciation schedule based on the Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1982 is incorporated in the analysis. Included is an example on determining the optimal replacement life cycle.

摘要:
In this paper the application of control variates for multipopulation simulation experiments is discussed. Procedures for statistical analysis, when these variates are observed, are presented, and results on the efficiency of employing control variates are established.

摘要:
Methods are developed for determining sampling designs in simple linear regression (SLR) when residuals are non-normal that permit use of the classical normality-based analyses. General designs (such as asymmetrical), wherein both sample size and location of independent variable values are determined, are considered. The methods are based on behavior of standardized third and fourth moments of regression estimators. All other regression assumptions are assumed to be true.

摘要:
A prediction model is developed for the case where two nonstochastic variables are linearly related and both are subject to measurement errors. The performance of ordinary and grouping least-squares methods are evaluated in terms of the integrated as well as the maximum mean-square error of prediction. The proposed methodology can be used to select an appropriate estimation technique as well as assess the effect of measurement errors on the behavior of the predicted values. The results presented may also provide guidelines in designing a related experiment through a sensitivity analysis. Exact and asymptotic results are given.

摘要:
A general model for multiattribute Bayesian acceptance sampling plans is developed which incorporates the multiattribute utility function of a decision maker in its design. The model accommodates various dispositions of rejected lots such as screening and scrapping. The disposition of rejected lots is shown to have a substantial impact on the solution approach used and on the ease of incorporation of multiattribute utility functions in terms of their measurement complexity, functional form, and parameter estimation. For example, if all attributes are screenable upon rejection, and the prior distributions of lot quality on each attribute are independent, then an optimal multiattribute sampling plan can be obtained simply by solving for an optimal single sampling plan on each attribute independently. A discrete search algorithm, based on pattern search, is also developed and shown to be very effective in obtaining an optimal multiattribute inspection plan when such separability cannot be accomplished.
