摘要:
In this paper, we consider a production-inventory model which assumes that learning occurs as a function of the number of units produced. We analyze two cases: the first case allows for no forgetting between production runs and the second case (a generalization of the first case) allows for some given degree of forgetting between production runs. In the first case, we show that learning only has an impact on initial lot-sizes for large order quantities and that steady state lot-sizes will approach the traditional EOQ amount. In addition, we show that succeeding lot-sizes are always nonincreasing. Applying these results to the second case when forgetting occurs, we develop efficient heuristic algorithms with complexity O(N logN) to determine order quantities. Results from our algorithms are compared to optimal solutions; these comparisons indicate that our algorithms usually provide solutions within one percent of the optimal cost.

摘要:
The Economic Lot Scheduling Problem, common in industry and the literature as well, is NP-hard and remains unsolved in general. We show 'that the very simple Rotation Cycle scheduling rule produces optimal or nearly optimal schedules in very many realistic situations and we give upper bounds for the maximum percentage deviation of the Rotation Cycle's schedule fro m optimality. An implication for Group Technology is discussed.

摘要:
An advantage of multiple attribute decision analysis is its capability of handling nomonetary factors in addition t o traditional monetary data. However, measurements o f nonmonetary attributes are often highly subjective and imprecise and most analytical m e t h o d s lack provisions for handling imprecise d a t a. In this paper we reex-amine t h e linear additive utility model, expand and adapt it to accommodate imprecise attribute ratings and weights.

摘要:
This paper describes a procedure for optimizing the Tota Productivity (TP) in a manufacturing process under a Group Technology production environment. This is achieved by inputting the optimal values of the cutting parameters (such as speed, feed, and depth of cut under different manufacturing process conditions) into a fractional programming model, which will then compute the optimal total productivity values for such cutting parameter values.

摘要:
Simulation modeling has been widely used to analyze complex stochastic systems, such as, to compute some performance measures of a modem manufacturing facility. Often, we are interested in optimizing these performance measures of the system wth respect to some controllable parameters. Traditional methods to find an optimum of a sirnulation model usually require making a number of simulation runs, which can be computationally intensive. This study proposes a stochastic optimization method to optimize a simulation model in a single simulation run, with the potential of large savings in computational effort. Two algorithms based on this method are developed and evaluated empirically using an M/M/l queue problem. Experimental results show that the algorithms, especially one of them, are promising and that this approach merits further investigation

摘要:
By invitation from the Editor of IIE Transactions, a research forum was established in 1987 to develop and prepare this article. The objective: to write on the directions, needs and challenges for research by the IE com-munity in applying computer and information sciences. The motivation: realizing the major advancements in computer and information sciences in the recent decade and their significant impact on the IE profession, it is vital to examine how IE research activities can respond effectively to current and emerging needs. This article is viewed as a useful contribution to such an examination.

摘要:
This paper deals wth the problem of optimizing the start and finish points for runs in a process which has a linearly drifting average. Deviations fr om a target value are penalized by a quadratic loss function which may have a different constant for negative or positive deviations.

A production/inventory system consisting of work stations in series and a finished product warehouse is introduced. Bounds for the throughput are developed through the analysis of the reversed system of tandem queues. Examples are provided to show the bounds.
