摘要:
This paper develops an estimate of the linear loss integral for three distributions: Student's t, Beta, and Negative Binomial. The proposed estimating equation is a multivariable nonlinear function which is developed in two stages. First, the integral is approximated by a quadratic function of the right-tail probability. Next, the estimated coefficients of the quadratic equation are regressed on the parameters of the distribution. Limitations, extensions, and applications of the estimates are fully discussed, and tables are provided to display sample accuracy.

This paper provides a structure for analysis and design of layouts for robotic systems. Unique features are identified and classified; prototype models are formulated to clarify specific design issues. These models formalize the existing qualitative literature dealing with robot systems, augment other quantitative approaches by demonstrating application of mathematical programming, and suggest topics of research to develop efficient solution algorithms.

摘要:
This paper presents a single-phase goal programming algorithm for scheduling nurses in one unit of the hospital. The goals represent the scheduling policies of the hospital and nurses' preferences for weekends on and off. An application to one unit of the hospital with 11 nurses resulted in satisfactory schedules. The computer time to solve the problem using a goal programming algorithm was very reasonable.

In this paper a model is developed for determining physical location of a repair and stockage facility at the first echelon together with optimal allocation of recoverable spares to each location in a two-echelon repair-inventory system to minimize the total expected system cost. An illustrative example is included to indicate the application of the model and the iterative methodology developed.

摘要:
This paper presents a brief critical review and a comparative study of some design aspects of the series production systems with a special emphasis on the design of buffer stocks. These aspects include paced and unpaced production flow lines, fixed cycle production (serial and sequential lines), allocation and capacity design of buffers, effect of variable operation times, the effect of unbalancing (bowl phenomenon), etc. Some of the results and discussions used in this paper have been adopted from available sources, and the rest have been compiled and/or calculated from the recent literature as mentioned therein. A general conclusion is made to the salient issues prevailing in the design of production systems.

摘要:
A deterministic model is formulated for the scheduling of major and minor repairs of goods-producing equipment. A procedure is suggested to find the optimal values of duration and the number cf minor repairs between any two consecutive major repairs in order to minimize the total cost per unit time comprised of repair costs, downtime costs, and unit production cost. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to explain the behavior of optimal values with variations in the parameters of the problem.

In this paper we study the expected performance of two dynamic lot-sizing heuristics (part-period-balancing and Silver-Meal) and provide an analytic framework for evaluating their expected average costs. Some recursive equations for computing the expected value of the heuristic solutions are derived and illustrated by some specific examples. A comparative study of the expected performance of the two heuristics for uniformly distributed demands is given, and the result shows that the Silver-Meal heuristic dominates the part-period-balancing heuristic in the long run.

This paper extends the MLP-T plan for s independence developed by Derman, Littauer, and Solomon to Markov-dependent production processes. The average outgoing quality (AOQ) of the m-level plan has been obtained. It is shown for the two-level plan that, when the serial correlation coefficient of the Markov chain is positive, it is incorrect to use MLP-T fors independence, as the actual average outgoing quality limit (AOQL) exceeds the desired AOQL under s independence. It is also observed that, for small departures of the serial correlation coefficient from zero, the plan is robust.

摘要:
In robotic assembly stations robots pick a series of component parts from bins and then insert and assemble them. Several approaches are described and formulated for optimizing bin organization, picking, and insertion sequence and route. Solution procedures are developed for several modes of assembly tasks. The Simple Assembly Plan problem (SAP) is defined and solved. Extensions to this problem are heuristically solved by separating the SAP problem into the Bin Assignment Problem (BAP) and the Pick-Insert Sequencing (PIS) problem. We then define and formulate a new version of the assignment problem which is termed the Minimax Assignment Problem (MAP). An algorithm for the solution of this problem is developed and tested.

摘要:
A class of semi-Markov models, having applications in operations research and reliability engineering, is examined. The special structure of these models permits their analysis by the inspection of flowgraphs having matrix-valued gains on their branches. The use of such flowgraphs effectively reduces the size and complexity of the state space required for analysis, leading to considerable simplification in both formulation and computation. These flowgraph procedures are presented in the context of reliability and availability analysis for systems whose missions are of uncertain duration, but other areas of application are also noted.
