摘要:
The behavior of ann-component/n-1 cold standby system is analyzed over a horizon whose duration is assumed to be random. Under certain stochastic assumptions concerning the individual components, system performance measures are computed which are applicable for a system that is observed over a random interval of time. Two measures of system performance, expected accumulated uptime and random interval reliability, are used to demonstrate the computational tractability of the modeling perspective proposed in the paper. These measures may be used to optimally choose the number of standby components in the system. Optimization examples are included to illustrate the application of the theory developed.

摘要:
The multi-item capacitated lot-sizing problem consists of determining the magnitude and the timing of some operations of durable results for several items in a finite number of processing periods so as to satisfy a known demand in each period. The subgradient algorithm implemented to minimize the processing costs is based on a Lagrangean relaxation of the capacity constraints imposed on the resources. The method incorporates a primal partitioning scheme—with a network flow subproblem—to obtain good feasible solutions.

This paper develops a general procedure to size storage facilities for open pit coal mines. More particularly, the paper presents (1) deterministic models for estimating working stock requirements, and (2) simulation models in the SLAM language which can be used to analyze safety stock requirements. The design procedure is illustrated using data similar to that experienced by a mine in Wyoming's Powder River Basin.

Capital budgeting analysis may be characterized as an attempt to satisfy a set of potentially conflicting objectives. Corporate managers may be faced with multiple and conflicting objectives. The wide-spread acceptance of prioritized objectives in capital budgeting has stimulated the adoption of pre-emptive goal programming models. This paper presents a procedure to model a goal programming based capital budgeting model as a polynomial expression where inter-and intra-goal trade-offs can be achieved subject to the marginal rates of substitution between preference levels.

Cyclic assembly schedules are schedules which follow a repeating production pattern. Each component is produced at times that are integer multiples of the base planning period of the finished product. These schedules have the managerial advantages of ease of control and planning, since future production follows a familiar, repeating pattern. Establishing and maintaining such a schedule requires a system to protect the schedule when bottlenecks occur. This paper discusses some of these issues and describes a simple methodfor calculating the optimalparameters of a cyclic schedule in a multistage assembly operation when production intervals are power-of-two multiples of a base period specified by management. The cycles are based on an Economic Order Quantity analysis, which is applicable if demand for the end items is fairly steady as in the case of a facility that supplies components to an assembly line.

This technique, called data truncation, is considered as a special case of observation weighting. Using a simple autoregressive model for the simulated series, several optimal weighting schemes are studied.

摘要:
This paper deals with a stochastic version of the simple facility location problem where the demands of customers are random variables. Under the assumption of step function type distribution of demands, the problem is shown to be approximated by a mixed 0–1 linear programming problem. A heuristic procedure is developed to solve the problem, which successfully extends the well known dual-based approach by Bilde & Krarup, and Erlenkotter. Computational results with 20 test problems are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed heuristic.
