摘要:
This paper sets out to examine theoretically the role that “time” plays in therapy. It proceeds by investigating the appearance of “time” in the therapeutic literature: specifically, research regarding the efficacy of brief therapy and attendance of clients in therapy, psychoanalytic concepts of “time”, family therapy's recent emphasis on the future and conceptualisations available about “time” and its role in problem formation and resolution. A summary of these findings precedes a discussion emphasising the problems of crisis, irreversibility and chronicity. The conclusion re‐emphasises the need for a multi‐modal approach to any future theorising on “time” in

摘要:
The metaphor of timelessness is developed to describe the paralysing “nothing will ever change” feeling that is common to chronic or longer term conditions and work with these conditions. Practical approaches that flow naturally from this description are outlined. These approaches, through disrupting the timelessness, lead to change, progress and hope being more accessible to client and wor

摘要:
In this paper the authors first describe the theoretical background of their constructivist approach to therapy: the Kiel‐Meyn‐Consultation‐Model. They then outline their guidelines “cooperating, reflecting, making open” for interviewing, briefly describe the “meta‐dialogue” and point out some basic helpful attitudes consultants can hold. Annotated excerpts from a consultation are then presented to give an idea of how the model works. The paper closes with summaries of follow‐up sessions and their evaluation

摘要:
Family therapy is often receptive to new ideas but so far it has only engaged with the second wave of feminisms in a restrained and conditional way. In this article we map the influence of feminisms on the life of family therapy and conclude that its dominant conceptual frameworks have so far resisted feminist revision. Ironically, while feminist post‐modernist thought has helped to loosen the modernist grip on family therapy, family therapy's embrace of post‐modernism synthesizes and displaces rather than centres feminist concerns. Since post‐modernism is not post‐patriarchal, the result may be exclusion of feminist perspectives that offer a principled and liberating way through current dilemmas in family therapy. Feminist perspectives are not mere voices among others; they hold promise for the development of a more inclusive theory and practice based on a valuing of inter‐connectedness and an ethics of care and resp

摘要:
This article introduces a practical contribution to consultancy with teams experiencing difficulties in maintaining group cohesion. Taking the position that options for change are reduced as teams feel more and more en trenched, the author outlines a way in which one particular exercise can help team members experiment with creating different and more useful perspectives.
