摘要:
In suggesting a psychology of gender difference I am obliged to weave my way very delicately between the social constructivists and post‐modernists on the one hand, and the essentialists or maternalists and French psychoanalytic feminists on the other — keeping my head low as well to avoid being spotted by the sociobiologists. This review is intended to provide an update of contemporary perspectives on the contentious issue of gender differe

摘要:
This paper is focused on the topic of the therapeutic relationship in systemic therapy. It is structured around the discussion of my experience of work with a particular family where the engagement issues were complex, and where there was the potential for a negative therapy sequence. The psychoanalytic concepts of transference, countertransference and projective identification are chosen to discuss my dilemmas — however, the differences between the analytic and systemic contexts of work are noted. Through the discussion of this case study, the potential benefits of using these analytic ideas to understand the therapeutic relationship in specific situations in systemic therapy are identifie

摘要:
This paper describes the development of a project dealing with the problems of offering therapy in a context of long waiting lists and high levels of child abuse and violence. The project involved the provision of an “Open Day” where clients could gain access to therapists for a “one‐off” consultation within one week of referral. The paper evaluates the results of the project and explores some further implications fo

摘要:
Most practitioners trained in family therapy are employed in host agencies which are not family therapy services. In these environments an ongoing challenge is to find constructive ways to manage the contraints of the employing agency. Central to meeting this challenge is the practitioner's ability to make sense of the host agency's local conditions. This paper offers a framework for developing an explicit awareness of these local conditions. It is the authors' view that an advanced level of ‘local knowledge’ allows for more creativity in managing the inevitably challenging experience of practice in human service agenc

摘要:
This paper is a chronicle of miracle narratives in family therapy. It suggests that change is a manifold and often comes unexpectedly from life, which places it outside the control of the theory and technology of family therapy. A miracle is defined not in supernatural language, so much as a co‐incidence of events that fall together' to form a narrative for change. As poetic metaphor, miracles evoke in the family therapist an aesthetics of wonder and a ‘holy curiosity’. The miracle metaphor is illustrated by several examples from family therapy practice, and is discussed in relation to recent deconstructive t
