摘要:
Families are described as “over‐attached” whose members respond anxiously to the otherwise normal unfolding of separation‐individuation processes and in the absence of past traumatic separations. It is observed that “anxious attachment” occurs with over‐availability just as with under‐availability of attachment figures and that attachment is an intra‐familial process as well as a dyadic one.A reformulation of Bowlby's attachment theory is required in order to encompass this systemic perspective, and to allow also for the integration of intrapsychic and extrapsychic process. Bowlby's control systems model need not stand in opposition to either systemic or psycho

摘要:
Therapists, victims, and abusers are all dissatisfied with current services for child sexual abuse. This paper explores the utility of a new description of the phenomenon in terms of cybernetics, which allows analysis of the interactions between systems as well as within them. The systems of interest include the family, the professional helpers, and the law. Previous conceptualisations are reviewed, and applications of the cybernetic model are suggested for both treatment and prevention of the problem of child sexual abuse. Although family therapy is often cited as the optimal treatment model for this problem, clinical work with families in which sexual abuse occurs can be unsatisfying to all concerned. The pattern‐focused orientation of cybernetics suggests constructive initiatives which professionals may take at the levels both of individual families and of broader social policie

摘要:
There has been a growing interest in the use of brief family therapy with children. Despite this increased interest, research into the effectiveness of this approach appears to have lagged behind clinical practice. The present paper critically reviews a study by Kinston and Bentovim (1978) which could be viewed as typical in the area of brief family therapy. Analysis of Kinston and Bentovim's investigation revealed serious methodological deficiencies and raised some important clinical issues in brief family therapy studies. These include the importance of training in family therapy, the use of a consistent theoretical framework, and flexibility in the application of techniques. On the basis of this review, recommendations are made that future investigations of brief family therapy follow the guidelines necessary for valid psychotherapy research.

摘要:
Therapists meeting families with young children need to understand how children think. This paper aims to help beginner family therapists regain their lost childhood fluency in the language of childthink, by reviewing the clinically relevant essentials. Six to eight year old children learn with their eyes and by doing and touching rather than by talking. Young children think concretely and have a limited vocabulary. Moral realism implies clear cut goodies and baddies. They can externalise troubles and master them assisted by heroic goodies. Their humour is visual and slapstick. Application of childthink is demonstrated with mastering allegories developed by local therapists. General principles are identified and illustrated with White's Sneaky Poo. Case vignettes illustrate other documented allegories for abdominal pain, monster taming, Fierce Fears and The Temper. Newer allegories such as Dreamy Dawdle, Tricky Itch, Slippery Mouth, Tricky Wee and Chubby Lie show promise. This paradigm has much uncharted potential.

摘要:
In this article three models of Marital or Couples Therapy are described. Framo's approch to working with couples illustrates Psychoanalytic Theory, Stuart — Social Learning Theory, and White — Systems Theory. For each model, the theory and the ensuing practice are discussed, with attention to the factors that lead to change, assessment, interventions, the role of the therapist. Each is placed within the Bernal and Baker (1979) level of intervention framework. Strengths of each model are highlighted. Each therapist's own style in session is descri
