摘要:
Automated guided vehicles are commonly employed in modern automated material-handling systems or flexible manufacturing systems. A new configuration for an automated guided-vehicle system (AGVS), called a tandem AGVS, has been proposed recently. Efficient use of this configuration is required to solve the load-routeing problem (LRP), a specific operational issue which affects the production system performance. In this paper, LRPs are studied and a two-phase approach is proposed to solve it. Phase 1 consists of an analytical approach based on the steady state. The output of phase 1 provides an adequate estimate and recommendation of routeing decisions of an operational system. Phase 2 is a simulation model which accepts the results from phase 1 to realize the impact of another operational performance such as the queue length of each station. It has been established that the LRP affects the operational performance of the AGVS.

We present a method for designing spine layouts. A spine layout is a layout in which a main aisle is used for the movements between the work cells located on both side and for the temporary storage of work in process. Our objective is to find a layout that minimizes both the handling costs and the investment costs. Also, a rectangular layout shape is searched for. With the proposed method, a design skeleton is first constructed with a heuristic. This design skeleton is then optimally transposed into a net layout via an integer linear program. Numerical results for layouts of 12 and 22 cells are presented.

摘要:
Despite a century-old history of productivity measurement and analysis, productivity still confuses managers because, even though it improves, profits may become reduced. After discussing the inherent problems with productivity, including the productivity paradox, this paper attempts to solve them by an unconventional use of a linear programming (LP) method. Accommodation of such strategic factors as manufacturing quality and flexibility is emphasized. The LP-based performance analysis also demonstrates that ‘manufacturing’ strategy can be the most important business strategy of a company.

摘要:
A heuristic is proposed for grouping of machines and components in cellular manufacturing. The method adopts the principle of strength coefficient using multidimensional scaling. The method has been found to give efficient solutions while taking less computational time. The algorithm is tested against five existing test problems taken from the literatures and is further compared with the two most commonly cited algorithms, i.e. rank order clusturing (ROC) and close neighbour algorithm (CNA).
