摘要:
In this paper we propose a scheduling algorithm based on splitting up the problem into separate yet linked subproblems. We develop a heuristic algorithm to manage the remaining links between the scheduling subproblems obtained as a result of the splitting process. The complexity of the computation and the performance of the algorithms are examined and numerical examples are given to illustrate these algorithms.

摘要:
This paper presents a framework for constructing regression metamodels for maintenance float systems (MFSs) with an Erlang-2 failure distribution. The metamodel is used in predicting the average equipment utilization (EU) of a maintenance float system for any given combination of repairpersons and standby units. It is shown that the regression metamodel from a 25 – 1factorial experiment yields close approximations to simulation results. TheEUmetamodel is further applied in a cost structure to determine the optimum number ofstandby units, and the number of repairpersons. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis onEUcan be conducted with the metamodel presented in this paper.

Recent developments in modern technologies such as CIM, FMS and CAD provide a great degree of operational flexibility and permit production of a variety of products with little or no changeover costs. In contrast, dedicated technologies with specialized equipment are designed to produce a limited range of products more efficiently. In this paper, we examire the tradeoffs between scale and scope economies in a two-product environment with general, dynamic demand patterns. We use a discrete period, finite horizon mathematical program to determine the optimal mix of dedicated and flexible technologies. Since the problem is difficult to solve optimally, we develop a two-phased heuristic procedure to obtain good expansion plans that determine type of technologies and amount of capacity additions. These procedures are based on easily solvable subproblems derived from the planning problem. Our computational results suggest that the methods work well and provide acceptable solutions with reasonable effort.

摘要:
Unit load size is a key factor in an automated guided vehicle based material handling system for a flexible manufacturing system. Highlighting this aspect and its importance at the design stage, this paper presents an integer programming formulation of the problem of finding the optimal unit load size. Using an existing analytical model to decide the number of AGVs required, an algorithm based on branching and implicit enumeration and a heuristic have been developed. Revised computations due to dynamic system conditions such as changes in part mix are also possible with the proposed algorithms. The methodologies have been demonstrated using numerical examples.

New manufacturing theories and techniques such as just-in-time and total quality management advocate the use of small lots in production and subsequently reduction of setup times. This yields better quality, lower response time, less operating expenses and less work-in-process. The implementation of the small-lot concept often encounters opposition from production people who feel that increasing the number of lots (an apparently inevitable result of reducing their size) implies a need for more information and more information technology.

In this paper we model the service performance of two-echelon divergent production networks consisting of one central stock-point feeding a number of end stock-points where the external demand is realized. The systems we consider allow all stock-points to hold inventory and use periodic review ordering policies at all levels. Whenever the lower echelon has insufficient inventory to cover all upper echelon requisitions some policy to ration the available material is needed. Concentrating on onepushand onepullrationing policy, we explore the system dynamics and develop models for three popular measures of the system service performance. All models make use of non-dimensional ratios which drastically reduce the number of parameters involved. Although these models are only approximate, numerical and simulation results demonstrate the adequacy of the approximations involved.
