摘要:
A methodology is proposed to design a GT cell by considering the intercell parts flow in GT cellular manufacturing systems. The problem of GT cell formation is described in a graph using the quantities to be produced in the specified time period and the process routes for producing the products. The objective of this paper is to minimize the total number of parts produced in more than one cell. The problem, formulated as a quadratic assignment problem (QAP), is solved using both Lagrangean relaxation technique and the optimality conditions of quadratic program. Furthermore, in order to obtain the giobal optimal solution rather than the local optimal solution, a branch-and-bound algorithm is employed. Finally, numerical examples are used to show the effectiveness of the solution techniques and GT cell formation procedure. Moreover, a computer simulation is presented, showing the effectiveness of cellular manufacturing systems

摘要:
In the present day high-tech uncertain industrial environment, there is often a need for determining expected cost per piece or per batch in advance of production. A mathematical model for stochastic cost optimization has been developed. If an exact solution is desired, a two stage stochastic geometric program has to be solved. This is tedious and requires great computational effort. However, managers are often concerned with a policy decision which can be based on the probable lower and upper bound on the stochastic cost function. This paper deals with estimating the probable cost range and also calculating the exact expected cost. The probability level on the lower bound of cost has been calculated through the theory of error propagation. A decomposition algorithm has been used to find the exact expected cost under a set of real-world constraints. The whole approach has been explained through an example

摘要:
This paper investigates a method for allocating production resources to manufacturing tasks. The method is discussed with the help of a dynamic travelling salesman problem (DTSP), which has been formulated in order to model the conditions encountered in the manufacturing environment. The method approaches the DTSP using a decision-making procedure which can be adjusted with a number of decision parameters. The decision parameters affect the quality of the solution as well as the computational burden required for the procedure. The effect of these parameters is explained using a probability analysis. In addition, the paper investigates how to select proper values for the decision parameters with the aid of statistically designed experiments

摘要:
Design and manufacture of cams are complicated engineering tasks which require usually lots of time and effort. Therefore, a CAD/CAM system for cams would be very useful. Recently, there has been an increasing demand from industry for automatic machines operating with spatial cams. This paper deals with a methodology of computer-aided design and manufacture of spatial cams. The computerized procedure is described in detail with accompanying examples

摘要:
This paper introduces an easy alternative to the Wagner-Whitin backorder algorithm. The algorithm is described and illustrated with an example. Its performance is compared with several of the traditional lot-sizing rules (lot for lot, economic order quantity, period order quantity, least unit cost, least total cost, part period algorithm, Silver-Meal algorithm and Wagner-Whitin algorithm) as well as the backorder versions of Wagner-Whitin and economic order quantity. This comparison is conducted using four different demand streams and 25 combinations of carrying, ordering and shortage costs. An aggregate performance index has been defined to compare lot-sizing rules. It is concluded that this new algorithm is sufficiently robust and relatively easy to apply. Results of experiments conducted highlight the more general nature of the backordering algorithms. By choosing the right combination of costs, backordering can be suppressed and traditional lot-sizing behaviour can be imitated

摘要:
This paper reports the results of an experimental programme to study the effects of process parameters on the surface roughness and out-of-roundness error on components produced by the plunge feed centreless grinding process. Experiments have been planned based on the statistical response surface methodology (RSM) technique. Mathematical models correlating the process parameters to the process responses are obtained. In conclusion, optimal process conditions to minimize the out-of-roundness error and the surface roughness on the components are reported

摘要:
In this paper, we present a facility layout planning method based on Al search techniques and on a set of rules and criteria called AILAY. This method may be classified as a combined constructive and improvement layout planning method, and the development and selection of its search rules and criteria are based on problem-specific knowledge. We also present the main test results and conclusions about the performance and robustness of AILAY and each of its search rules

摘要:
The majority of available microcomputer packages for statistical process control (SPC) are off-line programs which present information regarding quality in the form of control charts. The user has to interpret the charts to infer process and product quality. This paper describes XPC, an on-line expert system for SPC. The system produces mean and range charts and interprets them automatically. XPC consists of five main modules. The first module ascertains process parameters and constructs the charts. The second module performs capability analysis to ensure that these control charts are compatible with the process specifications. The third module interprets on-line data, detects possible out-of-control situations and suggests corrective actions. The fourth module updates the charts to improve process capability. The last module produces periodical reports. XPC is based on Leonardo, an expert system shell with a hybrid knowledge representation facility enabling the use of rules, rulesets, frames, procedures and classes

摘要:
This paper develops an analytical approach to quantifying manufacturing system flexibility (MSF). Measures of flexibility, namely, producibility, processivity, transferability and introducibility are developed based on a state-transition formalism, the reachability graph. The uncertainty in system operating conditions is specified in terms of certain disturbing factors, external and internal to the system, which impinge on system performance. The contribution of each factor to the value of a given type of flexibility is estimated using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The individual flexibility measures are thus combined to give a measure of MSF under a given operating environment. A Petri net model is used to construct the reachability graphs used in flexibility measurement. Uses of the proposed measures at the design and operational analysis stages of FMS are presented

摘要:
Frequently, production systems can be designed to be flexible in that the output rate of the system can be changed depending upon the demand requirements that the system faces. In such systems, the problem is considered to be the determination of the optimal point at which the system switches between its output levels. Simple control has one switching point between adjacent output levels. In this paper, it is shown that hysteretic control, the determination of two switching points, always provides for a lower operating cost than simple control. Based upon the characteristics of the performance measures, a procedure is developed that easily finds the optimal switching points. The procedure, when applied to a small midwest job shop, resulted in a cost savings of 9-97%.
