摘要:
The work reported in this paper deals with the mechanism of metal removal in electrothermic machining. An empirical relation between the metal removal rate and the current has been established. The effect of tool materials and polarity on metal removal rate has also been analysed.

摘要:
This paper looks at the inventory-related models published during the last ten years from the systems point of view. A chart is given to show the broad oategories of inventory models. The paper first lists eleven quantifiable and four non-quantifiable variables (and their types) that go into inventory formulas, affect inventory decisions, and have already been identified by the researchers. Next, various research papers are grouped in six oategories based on similarities of approaches UBed by these papers. These categories are : (1) models for determining optimum inventory polioies, (2) lot size optimization, (3) optimization of various specific: management objectives, (4) models for optimizing highly specialized inventory situations, (5) application of advanced mathematical theories to inventory problems, and (6) models bridging the gap between theory and practice. Next a synthesized review of recently published models belonging to each individual category is presented, and salient features of individual studies are highlighted. Further, this paper discusses the difficulties that most commonly arise in applying these models to routine practical inventory situations; and it also lists the weaknesses (or limitations) of certain assumptions commonly made by the researchers for developing inventory models. In the end, the paper makes several suggestions about how the available results of inventory models can best be used in practice.

摘要:
Exponential smoothing is one means of preparing short-term sales forecasts on a routine basis. To use exponential smoothing, however, one must decide the proper values for the smoothing constants in the forecasting model. One method for selecting the smoothing constants involves conducting a grid search to evaluate a wide range of possible values. An alternative method, called pattern search, is presented in this paper and is compared to the grid search procedure. Two criteria are used in comparing these procedures: (1) the standard deviation of the forecast error, and (2) the computing time necessary for a solution, The results of this comparison indicate that, when the exponential smoothing model includes trend and seasonal adjustments, pattern search requires far less computer time than the grid search procedure to produce smoothing constant values for which the forecast error values are comparable.

摘要:
The impact of order on the overall cost of a product manufactured by independent serial processes is well known. Process improvement and subsequent cost reduction is always an objective. Constrained financial resources are usually the case. This paper combines these three aspects to give direction to the use of financial resources to optimize the cost reductions in a serial process. In the paper it is shown that a non-optimal sequence may have the most potential when the resources are properly applied.

摘要:
This article describes how to fit a non-linear model to the process mean of processes subject to systematic trends. Determination of the optimal length of the production run is discussed for single and double specification limits. The results are also applicable for linear trends. Illustrative examples show how the optimal production run is calculated.

摘要:
As a result of the limitations inherent in the present technique of estimating work standards, the concept of utilizing psychological and physiological indices instead of time alone in establishing predetermined work standards is evaluated in an exploratory study.
