摘要:
Much has been said on the various aspects of lot sizing for single-level and multi-level (assembly) systems in MRP. Numerous heuristics have been developed and tested on (rather small) problems with finite horizon and deterministic, time-varying demand.

摘要:
‘Leadtime error’, the difference between the time actually used to manufacture an item and the planned leadtime used by MRP. is shown to play an important intermediary role in the MRP performance of dynamic lot-sizing rules. A simulation experiment was performed to measure the leadtime error effects of five lot-sizing rules: economic order quantity (EOQ): period order quantity (POQ); lot for lot (LFL); part period balancing (PPB); and the Silver and Meal heuristic (S&M). Some lot-sizing rules, which made inferior economic tradeoffs between the costs of inventory holding and ordering (such as LFL), were shown to induce tight leadtime error distributions and excellent overall performance, while others (notably POQ) were shown to result in larger errors and significantly poorer delivery performance. The experiment's computational results explain why the EOQ and POQ rules may not be appropriate for use with MRP. The best rules tested were PPB and S&M.

摘要:
In the production of an extrusion die, the step which consists of drilling thousands of holes into a steel hlank is extremely expensive. Several potential improvements for this drilling process have been proposed. This paper will attempt to evaluate the benefits of each proposed strategy using simulation. Substantial post-analysis of the simulation data is discussed to develop further potential improvements in the production process.

摘要:
The problem of medium term production planning and control is compounded in many manufacturing concerns by the wide variety of products and by the presence of stochastic variables. This paper presents a simple heuristic approach to the problem by essentially combining a simple linear decision rule with a switching algorithm to give multi-product control operating within capacity limits. The approach is examined in depth by description of an industrial study and the results of the study suggest that the method requires little computing time, that it is conceptually simple and that it gives good results. It is suggested that the approach could be extremely useful in a wide variety of batch manufacturing environments.

摘要:
Hand tools are responsible for approximately 10% of all industrial injuries. Despite guidelines for designing better hand tools and increased automation. common unpowered hand tools are, still being used in assembly line and maintenance operations in most developing and industrialized countries. The decline in industrial productivity due to improper selection and usage of a hand tool has largely been ignored till now. This trend, however, cannot continue for long if the goal of industrial and production engineers is to strive constantly for higher productivity.

摘要:
The scheduling of production activities has a wide-spread effect on resource productivity and customer service. This paper presents a model for scheduling setups, technological operations, inspections and internal transportation activities in multi-stage batch manufacturing systems. It is shown that the model facilitates the efficient utilization of resources and the timely availability of product. An algorithm for generating detailed production schedules (Gantt charts) from the model is developed. This algorithm, as coded on an IBM Personal Computer, is used to produce sample schedules which demonstrate the potential application of the research for planning and control.

摘要:
There areNproducts, each demanded at a fixed raterjper period, and a single facility which, if assigned to productj, will producepj(>rj) units per period. Given the initial inventory for each product and a finite planning horizon, then the problem is to identify the production schedule with the minimum inventory holding and backordering costs.

摘要:
The plant location problem is one which entails multiple factors (attrihutes). The decision process is often made intuitively because of the conflicting nature among attributes and the lack of awareness of proper evaluation techniques, The multiple attribute decision making (MADM) methods are management decision aids in evaluating and/or selecting a desired one from the finite number of options, which are characterized by multiple attributes. Usually the number of prospective sites is finite, hence MADM methods are clearly suitable tools for site selection problems. This paper employs five newly-developed MADM methods for different versions of manufacturing plant site selection problems. The present part I considers the single-plant strategy with qualitative and quantitative data. Part II will cover the multi-plant strategy with the budget constraint and the relocation strategy.

摘要:
In part I, the multiple attribute location analysis for the single-plant strategy was provided. However, practitioners recognize the necessity of multi-plant strategy and the difficulty of relocation problems. In this article, two solution approaches in a multidimensional environment are suggested for these complex location decisions. The conclusion presents a brief discussion of the selection among multiple attribute decision methods and of the case with multiple decision makers.

摘要:
The accurate cost estimation of major production tools, such as for presswork or injection moulding, is important for successful toolroom management. This paper describes how a British tool-making company, working with a university department, is changing to a computer-based tool cost estimating system for injection moulds. The new system is mainly concerned with the labour content of tool manufacture. It uses component shape and tool structure analyses based on conventional coding principles. The resultant data base is classified and subdivided by cluster analysis. Estimates are then derived by multiple linear regressions which use the relevant cost characteristic tool group.
