摘要:
The infrared emission spectra of a variety of small diffusion flames was studied in the laboratory. Ethylene, acetylene, matchwood and the pyrolysis products of Eucalypt forest litter gave qualitatively similar spectra consisting largely of non-specific black body radiation from carbon particles, with narrow radiation bands due to water vapour and, especially, carbon dioxide. Addition of water to the fuels had little effect on the carbon dioxide emission but reduced the radiation from the carbon particles by a factor as large as three. The effect arises from changes in the opacity of the flames. This result goes far toward explaining the profound influence which fuel moisture has on the rate of spread of a forest fire

摘要:
The thermal decomposition of nitrous oxide (N20) was studied in a single-pulse shock tube in the temperature range 1300 to 1950 ° K at a total concentration of 2 x 10− 5moles/ cc. The Arrhenius rate constant for the reaction N2O + M→ N2O+ M is given by K1= 1013.1exp (-44,100/ RT) a/ mole sec. The ratio of the rate constants for the two competing secondary reactions, N2O + O→ N2+ O2and N2O + O → NO + NO was also determined and was found to be K3/ K2The overall rate of N2O decomposition is also discussed and the results of previous investigators are compared to the findings reported here

摘要:
Experiments on cyclic, unsteady compressible flow with heat addition are reported. Frequencies of oscillation of pressure, density, etc. of up to 6,000 Hz are noted in the transonic region of Laval nozzles. The unstable flow is caused by heat addition due to condensation of water vapor in air. A dimensional analysis is given where the essential variables are identified without recourse to an understanding of the details of the condensation process. A stability diagram is presented and the process is explained in qualitative terms

摘要:
An analytical model which considers gas-phase processes has been developed for gas turbine combustors. In the model the fluid mechanics of combustors are rather crudely approximated for reasons of mathematical tractability, and the perfectly stirred reactor constitutes the basic computational component of the model

摘要:
A theory is presented for an HF chemical laser employing both the hot and cold pumping reactions under c.w. conditions. Six vibration-rotation lines are considered to be lasing simultaneously. Aerodynamic control is incorporated to the extent that the flow is assumed to expand continuously, maintaining isothermal static conditions in the gas. Closed form solutions are obtained for the populations of the excited states. The results show the influence of the numerous parameters of the system on the specific power output, gain, and saturation. While significant fractions of the chemical energy available can be converted into energy in the laser beam, the theory suggests there remains room for substantial improvement. Comparisons are also discussed for situations where some of the lines are suppressed
