摘要:
In order to understand the influence of cross-linking and the nature of binder on the combustion of polymer/AP propellants, combustion studies on polyester fuel binder, cross-linked with methyl-methacrylate, have been made. Compression strength, hardness and tensile properties of polymers and propellants have been measured. Thermal degradation data on polymers in presence of oxygen and the data on propellants obey the relation.

Simple mechanisms are proposed for both NO decomposition and NO2formation at typical combustion conditions. Analytical studies indicate that the fast NO2reactions, NO2+ M NO + O + M and NO + O2O + N2, have a strong effect on both systems. During NO decomposition (1400 < T < 2500°K), these reactions maintain equilibrium between atomic and molecular oxygen. They also promote rapid conversion of NO to NO2(600 < T < 1200°K) in the presence of atomic oxygen, and may thus explain NO2formation in gas turbine combustors. Practical evaluation of both mechanisms will require consideration of hydrocarbon kinetics and mixing effects.

The gaseous emissions of carbon monoxide, nitric oxide and unburned hydrocarbons have been measured in the exhaust of a small industrial gas turbine engine. Using a rate limited partial equilibrium approach, the mechanisms responsible for excessive carbon monoxide concentrations are studied for the entire turbine power range. A simple model is formulated from these mechanisms which yields reasonable agreement with measured values and predicts the CO emissions variation with load. It is shown that excessive CO emissions are caused by the rapid quenching of primary zone combustion gas by the dilution air jets. At the jet interfaces, a fraction of the gas contains CO concentrations far above equilibrium. A contributing factor to excessive CO emissions is the poor fuel distribution in the primary zone. Where fuel burns with air at an equivalence ratio less than 0.6, some of the CO formed by rapid partial oxidation of the fuel remains throughout the engine. Minimum CO emission rates from the industrial gas turbine engine studied would be obtained by burning a uniform mixture of fuel and air in the primary zone at an equivalence ratio of 0.7.

The exponential wide band model is used to establish a simple analytical basis for determining the total band absorptance of two overlapped infrared gas wide bands. Solutions are first developed for homogeneous mixtures. These results are then extended to the nonhomogeneous case by using an existing scaling prescription for the wide band parameters. Comparisons are made with available experimental data for the important case of overlapping carbon dioxide and water vapor bands near 2.7 microns. The agreement is good for the homogeneous cases and is excellent for the nonhomogeneous cases for a wide range of mixture compositions and temperature distributions.

The stability of a rocket motor depends on the response of the solid propellant to pressure and velocity fluctuations on the combustion surface, and the determination of this response is at present only possible by experimental means. The technique developed for the study of pressure coupling consists in creating, by modulation of the exhaust throat, forced pressure oscillations in the combustor of a test engine with short residence time. Progress obtained in analyzing this type of engine and in experimental procedure yielded encouraging results. The study of velocity coupling, approached with similar means, is still at the explorating stage.

In this paper a complete solution (initiation to completion) for the sub-critical spatially homogeneous reaction has been developed. Complete reaction consumption is included. The solution is in two parts: (1) the rapid temperature rise (2) the subsequent decay back to initial conditions. The two parts are joined using the method of matched asymptotic expansions. The complete temperature-time history is displayed graphically, to show the dependence of the temperature variation and fuel consumption on reaction order, heat loss parameter and the thermodynamic properties of the system.

摘要:
Internal measurements of carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and nitric oxide are reported for different axial and radial positions within an Allison T-56 film-cooled liner and used to construct a flow and combustion model for the T-56 liner. In addition, pollutant concentrations were measured at the combustor exit plane for both liquid and vapor propane fuel at various levels of combustor loading. All the results are examined with respect to a model of spray combustion developed for a penetration jet type combustor (Mellor, 1973) and found to be consistent with it.
