摘要:
Dodge-type continuous sampling plans are used to screen mass produced items so that long run quality requirements will be met. The choice of a particular Dodge-type plan is often based on the plan's aoql, the long run proportion of defectives that remains in the output after inspection under the assumption that the production process is in a “state of statistical control.” Another measure by which a plan can be evaluated is the uaoql, the long run proportion of defectives remaining under the assumption that the production process operates in the worst possible way relative to the plan. This paper presents five graphs that can be used to provide uaoql values for a large number of h 106 plans. The linear program used to calculate these graphs is also included.

摘要:
The natural logarithm of the likelihood function is written down for them−rorder statistics remaining after censoring then−mlargest and thersmallest observations of a sample of sizen(0 ≤r<m≤n) from a three-parameter lognormal population. Its first partial derivatives with respect to the parameters, when equated to zero, yield the likelihood equations, and the negatives of its second partial derivatives with respect to the parameters are the elements of the information matrix. Algebraic solution of the likelihood equations is impossible, so it is necessary to resort to iteration on an electronic computer. The iterative procedure proposed is applicable to special cases in which one or two of the parameters are known as well as to the most general case in which all three parameters are unknown. A modification of the procedure allows circumvention of a certain anomaly which sometimes occurs in maximum-likelihood estimation of the parameters of a three-parameter lognormal population from small samples. The information matrix is inverted to obtain the asymptotic variances and covariances of the local-maximum-likelihood estimators, which are tabulated for various values of the censoring proportionsq1=r/nfrom below andq2= (n−m)/nfrom above. Results are reported of a Monte Carlo study conducted to check the validity of the asymptotic variances and covariances and their applicability to samples of moderate size.

摘要:
Recently Professors T. J. Rothenberg, F. M. Fisher, and C. B. Tilanus published a paper proposing the class of trimmed means as estimators of the location parameter of the Cauchy distribution [5]. They showed that the asymptotic sampling variance of the estimators in this class is essentially minimized by using the middle 24% of the sample order statistics. The corresponding estimate has an asymptotic relative efficiency to the best estimator for complete samples (A.R.E.) of .87796 as compared to an A.R.E. of .81057 for the sample median.

摘要:
LetX1, …,Xkbekstochastically independent random variables and letXihave the uniform distribution on the interval from 0 to θi,i= 1, …,k. The power function of the likelihood ratio test is found for the problem of testing {H0: θ1= … = θkθ0, θ0specified;H1: θi≠ θ0for at least onei,i= 1, …,k}, and ump possibilities are investigated. For the problem of testing {H0: θ1= θ2, common value unspecified;H1: θ1≠ θ2}, the power function of the likelihood ratio test is found and this test is shown to be an invariant test under multiplication by a strictly positive constant and to be a ump unbiased test. It is pointed out that when sample sizes are equal, the likelihood ratio test statistic is distributed as the absolute value of a certain Laplace random variable, and that the likelihood ratio test is ump invariant under permutations and multiplication by a strictly positive constant. An iterative test for the problem of testing {H0: θ1= … = θk, common value unspecified;H1: θi≠ θjfor at least one (i,j),i≠j,i,j= 1,…,k},k> 2, is discussed. These results are extended to a larger class of distributions.
