Thermal expansion was measured for skull‐melt‐grown undoped single‐crystal zirconia as well as for crystals containing 2.8 wt% MgO, 4 wt% CaO, and 3 to 20 wt% Y2O3. Samples were cycled in air from room temperature to 1500°C. The transformation‐range viscosity and the glass transformation temperatures were measured for three series of Li2O‐R2O3‐SiO2glasses containing varying alumina‐to‐gallia ratios. The results indicate that these properties vary linearly with the alumina/gallia ratio. These results suggest that these glasses are isostructural and that no “mixed intermediate oxide”
