摘要:
Pore solutions expressed from hydrated Portland cement pastes containing up to 30% microsilica (silica fume) as replacement for cement were analyzed. The presence of microsilica enhances early concentrations of alkalies and hydroxyl ions, but after 1 day the effect is reversed, and the concentrations of these ions are progressively reduced to very low values. Alkali reduction seems more pronounced for pastes of higher water content, and low levels of microsilica replacement (5 or 10%) exert substantially greater than proportional effects.

A simple experimental method is proposed for determining stress intensity factors for composite plates in antiplane loading. The method relies on the fact that, in antiplane loading, a single harmonic potential function describes the state of stress und strain in an isotropic body in much the same way as a single potential function describes local flux densities in an electric conductor.

The effects of60Co gamma radiation on the strength‐related mechanical properties of a borosilicate glass were examined. Although the glass darkened considerably, only a very slight densification was observed after irradiation to levels of 108rads. The strength distributions were not appreciably changed by the irradiation, nor was the calculated slow crack growth parameter, orNvalue. Neither did radiation affect the elastic modulus or the fracture toughness of the glass. Gamma radiation does not affect the strength below 108rad
