A method is described, which permits to obtain easily, by graft, cells ofAcetabularia mediteraneuwith two or more reproductive caps. These giant cells, in which the cytoplasm/nucleus ratio has been artificially increased, are able to complete their biological cycle normally with the formation of a great number of ovoidal cysts, typical of the species.

The results of cytochernical analyses on root tips ofAllium cepaare reported. DNA and histones spectrophotometric determinations accomplished on nuclei in different stages of the mitotic cycle, show that histone content per nucleus is doubled from G1to G2, it is slightly decreasing from G2to prophase and again increasing from prophase to methaphase. If histones after acetylation are taken into account it is seen that the highest content of lysinerich histones is detectable in mataphase. The significance of these observations is discussed in the light of views on the histones function. Data collected with fast-green-cosin method are also presented.

Modification of the carotenoids composition in a Chlorella vulgaris mutant.— TheChlorella vulgarismutant P69which was obtained by U.V. irradiation and demonstrated a larger content in chlorophyll and a higher ratio chlorophyllato chlorophyllbin comparison with the wild strain, shows even a different quantitative distribution of the carotenoid pigments and the presence of a xanthophyll, similar to loroxanthin, which was not present in the wild strain.

A report about new or interesting plants in the Marche region. II.— The author points out or in some cases confirms the occurrence in this region of 103 entities of specific or infraspecific rank. 29 of such entities (Salix elaeagnossubsp.angustifolia, Anemone trifoliasubsp.albida, Fumaria vaillantii, Cleome spinosa, Vicia monantha, Onobrychis arenariasubsp.arenaria, O. arenariasubsp.tommasinii, Helianthemum apenninum × H. nummulariumsubsp.obscurum, Cerinthe maculata, Cynoglossum columnae, Symphythum orientale, Solanum nigrumsubsp.humile, S. luteum, S. aviculare, Verbascum mallophorum, Scrophularia umbrosa, Veronica cymbalariavar.panormitana, Rbinanthus personatus, Melam-pyrum fimbriatum, Orobanche lutea, O. picridis, O. concolor, Lippia canescens, Stachys alpina, St. pubescens, Plantago holosteum, P. cornuti, Valerianella carinata, Campanula bononiensis)are quite new or not yet recorded for the Marche region, sometimes even for the whole central section of the Italian Peninsula; other 9 (Polygonum orientale, Stellaria neglecta, S. pallida, Cerastium glomeratumvar.eglandulosum, Anchusa hybrida, Linaria simplex, Veronica beccabungavar.montana, Stachys reinerti, Olea europaeasubsp.oleaster) are briefly reported in Middle Italy by the Italian general Floras, but till now have not been mentioned in works dealing with regional floristic. The remaining 65 entities are already known in the Marche, but very little reported; for these new localities and stations are given, or general information on their distribution throughout the region is provided. It is very doubtful thatErica scopariaoccurs in the Marche, andLonicera nigradoes not grow this region. The report is based on the collections and observations made by the author himself and his collaborators during the last years.
