摘要:
Because of his involvement over many years in Industrial Democracy in this country, Europe and USA Brian Smith, Past-President of the Institution of Production Engineers, was asked to set down how the Institution's views on the subject might be expressed. This he did, circulating it to several members for comment before producing the final version. To acquaint members with what has been submitted on their behalf and to promote discussion we give the full text below. Inevitably Brian Smith's own views as Board Chairman of PA Management Consultants have influenced this statement, and he has also submitted an addendum which as it has, perhaps, less relevance to the Institution of Production Engineers is not published here.

摘要:
The formidable techniques of gas-cutting low-alloy steels has been widely used since the early 1900's, but the most important technological advances for fast, efficient cutting with machines are still new to many engineers. This is the second of two articles—the first was published in the Production Engineer in February this year—in which the technology is reviewed and some tips are given for successful and economical cutting.

摘要:
This article describes the main issues in the current inflation accounting debate, outlines their relevance for company managers and summarises the main proposals for altering present accounting practice. These proposals, when adopted, will radically alter the basis of accounting and company reporting. They will affect both formal published accounts and information prepared for internal use by managers and, increasingly, by the work-force. The issues involved are illustrated by examples from simple business situations.
