摘要:
AbstractThe authors report the incidence (20%) of hypervascularity of the uterine wall (decidual reaction) (1) in 106 pregnant women studied prospectively by ultrasound. An unusual case, which caused problems in diagnosis and management, is reported in detail. The relation between the location and extent of this finding and the location of the placenta is discussed. The authors think that this finding represents dilation of myometrial veins of uncertain etiology, and they conclude that the major implications are that it must be differentiated from pathologic entities that are similar sonographically (1), and that if anterior, it may cause excessive bleeding during invasive procedures.

AbstractPulsed Doppler ultrasonic imaging of the extracranial carotid arteries was performed in 118 patients (226 arteries) in whom selective contrast arteriograms were available for comparison to ultrasonic images. Specificity for the detection of normal and stenosis less than 50% was 84%, whereas sensitivity for detecting stenosis greater than 50% and occlusion of the internal carotid arteries was 89%. Overall accuracy was 85%. Capabilities and limitations in the use of the technique are presented in selected case reports.

AbstractTwo hundred and three studies were selected from approximately 5,000 abdominal examinations where comparable images obtained at the same level with both a black and a white background were available. The ease with which liver metastatic lesions, ducts and vessels in the liver and pancreas, the renal pyramids, and the gallbladder wall could be seen with the two modalities was compared. It was felt that textured organs, such as the liver and kidney, were best shown with a black background but that tubular structures, such as the pancreatic duct, were easier to see with a white background.

AbstractThe relation between renal length (L) and the distance between the first four lumbar transverse processes, (4TP) as measured by sonography and intravenous urography, has been studied in 20 adults with normal urograms. The ratio of L/4TP (Mean ± 2.S.D.) was 1.04 ± 0.22 for sonograms and 1.25 ± 0.26 for urograms. The possible reasons for these differences are discussed. AbstractDynamic ultrasonic imaging of superficial body organs adds a new dimension to clinical sonographic examinations in that it enables the real‐time evaluation of tissue motion and vascular pulsations. A high‐frequency (7.2 MHz) linear‐array system has been newly developed that generates simultaneous A‐ and B‐mode displays at 60 frames/sec. The instrument produces real‐time scan‐converted images in standard television format for direct viewing on television (TV) monitors or clinical recording through videotape equipment.
