The present results indicate that dietary protein tends to depress the atherogenic effect of dietary cholesterol and fat. The substitution of heated oil for fresh oil depresses the serum cholesterol and β-lipoprotein levels, but the incidence of atherosclerosis is at least as high as with fresh oil, indicating that the serum cholesterol and β-lipoprotein levels are not necessarily proportional to the degree of experimental atherosclerosis.

Pyridoxine (400 mg./day) was given to 21 individuals for periods up to a maximum of 36 days. A slight but significant fall in serum cholesterol levels was observed, the effect being more marked in diabetic than in nondiabetic subjects.

Cardiac output, reserve force of the heart, total peripheral resistance and weights of the heart and other organs were determined in normal rats, and in rats at different times after their aortas were narrowed just below the diaphragm. Although the output of the hypertrophied heart was normal, its reserve force was greater.

Histologic study of the capillary bed contained within the pulps of human teeth shows components which differ as to the presence or absence of muscle in their walls. The vessels which supply the capillary network of the pulp are metarterioles and precapillaries with their sphincters. Arteriovenous anastomoses are also found in the pulp.

Normal rabbits were exposed to single, subanesthetitizing doses of chloroform vapors and a regular decrease in their total serum cholesterol was found. In rabbits with abnormally high serum cholesterol levels, however, no consistent changes were observed. In control experiments it was found that in the normal rabbit there is a diurnal variation in serum cholesterol, with lowest values around 4 p.m. No consistent changes were found in the serum cholesterol of rabbits after being submerged for brief periods in ice water.
