The relation of pressure to flow was studied in renal perfusion experiments employing oligocythemic blood and artificial perfusates which contained no blood corpuscles. The results indicate that renal circulatory autoregulation is not unique for blood and that the basic cause of renal autoregulation is a myogenic reaction to altered transmural pressure which is apparently not unique to the kidney.

摘要:

Sitosterol has previously been shown to block cholesterol absorption in both animals and man. Its clinical effectiveness in reducing hypercholesteremia has been repeatedly demonstrated. For periods exceeding 4 years, large amounts of sitosterol have been given daily for maintaining reduction of serum cholesterol concentration. The possibility of adverse side effects resulting from chronic administration has been considered. Long-term animal and clinical studies indicate that sitosterol has no detectable toxicity and does not accumulate or deposit in tissues.

A technic is described for selective catheterization of individual coronary arterial branches in intact dogs by means of special catheters which permit intracoronary injections of pharmacologic agents or radio-opaque materials. All the main coronary arteries (right, left anterior descending, left circumflex) have been successfully catheterized and injected, both alone and in combination.

The effects of intracoronary arterial injections of nicotine on coronary blood flow, myocardial contractility, cardiac rhythm and the QRS-T complex of the electrocardiogram were studied in intact dogs. The results indicate that nicotine stimulates intrinsic cardiac structures producing parasympathomimetic, sympathomimetic and Bezold-Jarisch reflex responses. The role of these intracardiac receptors is discussed in relation to the circulatory effects resulting from the ingestion of nicotine.
