摘要:
This paper studies the polling of two infinite queues by a synchronous server. The inputs to these queues are correlated and restricted to occur only at equally spaced time intervals. For simplicity, the walktime for the server to move from one queue to the other is assumed to be zero in this study. In essence, the problem studied in this paper is equivalent to a fixed service time queueing system which accepts two types of synchronized correlated inputs and adopts an alternating priority discipline. This paper contains a complete analysis of both the busy period and the waiting time. The validity of the analysis has been verified by computer simulations.

摘要:
The hydrodynamic characteristics of a cylinder‐plane bearing are investigated by using a modified Reynolds equation. The modified Coyne‐Elrod boundary conditions are used at the rupture boundary. It is found that the pressure in the convergent portion of the bearing, and hence the load capacity, is increased significantly as the Reynolds number is increased. The pressure distribution and the load capacity of the bearing are relatively insensitive to the variation of the surface tension parameter.

摘要:
This paper presents a microcomputer based data acquisition system and an analysis of pressure fluctuations in the range of weak hydraulic jumps. Statistical analysis of data shows that the distribution of pressure fluctuations follows the Gaussian probability density function. The maximum pressure fluctuation amplitude is found to be in the range of 2.5 to 3.5 times the standard deviation. The spectral analysis of data indicates that large eddies in the low frequency range of 0 to 20 Hz are predominant over the small eddies in the high frequencies. This result is also predicted by the empirical correlation coefficient. Based on cross correlation analysis, the relationship between areal pressure fluctuations and point pressure fluctuations is developed and can be used to prevent over‐designing the strength of the stilling basins. It shows that the areal pressure fluctuations decrease as the jump longitudinal dimension increases.

摘要:
The tensile properties of hydroxypropylcellulose sheets which were formed by means of hot compression at temperatures between 150° and 220°C were examined at room temperature. The marked increase of elongation at breaking and the decrease of the Young's modulus over temperatures of 210°C agreed well with the phase transition observed by the polarized light microscope. These phenomena have been explained by X‐ray and SEM studies.
