摘要:
The stress distribution in fillet weldedT‐joints was investigated with computer modeling. The finite element method was used for the analysis ofT‐joints in the plane stress condition, under static load. Photoelastic stress measurement was employed to check the validity of the computer calculations. Following the American Welding Society (AWS) welding design procedure, the AWS permissible design loads were used as a reference for the stress analysis. The ultimate strength of the weldedT‐joints was determined when the plastic hinge first occurred in the joints during the loading. A set of newly designed curves for fillet weldedT‐joints with various degrees of flange flexibility were obtained. The curves were compared with the AWS Code and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Specifications. As a result, a revision in the application of these two design concepts was conceived. The full strength weld size was also evaluated with different web lengths and flange flexibilities according to the AWS and AISC design procedures. It is suggested that the industry is at a point where a more accurate weld design concept is needed.

This study is to discuss the effect of longitudinal heat conduction on a rotary regenerative heat exchanger. An example in Ref. [5] is computed to compare the effect of longitudinal heat conduction. The solutions presented in this study are obtained from the method of numerical analysis as shown in Ref. [3].

摘要:
A method was developed for liquid‐droplets size measurement with the conical‐type hot‐film probe. In this study the device is calibrated for water droplets, and the results show that the droplet diameter is a function of the peak signal value and the rising time of the anemometer output signal. This agrees qualitatively with the theoretical signal shape properties presented in this paper.

摘要:
The Fourier algorithm, due to its good frequency response characteristics, is frequently used in calculating the peak value of a distorted wave for real time measuring applications. A new method, using the linear modulation method, is proposed to implement the algorithm. It improves the defect of a large number of arithmatic operations during implementation of the algorithm. This paper describes the structure and theory of the proposed linear modulated Fourier algorithm. Test results, including the required arithmatic operations and the numerical accuracy, are reported. Moreover, application to the digital impedance relay was simulated, and the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is suitable for relaying applications.

摘要:
A method is presented whereby the electric and magnetic fields within a rectangular coaxial transmission line (TEM cell) can easily be obtained. The analysis is based on the variational technique in the space domain combined with the Green's function method. Numerical data are presented for the characteristic impedance and for the field distributions within the cell. The results calculated by the present method are found to be in good agreement with those in open literature.

摘要:
A uniform volumetric discharge was obtained by means of an auxiliary UV preionization in a home‐made TEA CO2laser. The maximum output pulse energy of this laser system was about 12Jper pulse with a pulse duration of 80 ns. The ratio of electric field to neutral particle density (E/N) in this laser was 7.6×10‐16V cm2. The peak power and pulse shape of the laser were studied. The time delay between the predischarge and the maindischarge during the stable operation of this laser system has also been studied. It was observed that the laser was operating with uniform glow discharges when the time delayed between the predischarge and the maindischarge was in the range of 1.0μs to 6.0μs. The spark array used as a preionizer for producing the UV radiation in this system is new, simple, durable, and can be easily fabricated.

摘要:
In this paper, by using discrete‐type Lyapunov stability criterion, new sufficient conditions for robust pole‐assignment of uncertain systems in a specified disk are presented. The norm bound on linear time‐invariant perturbations is obtained. The relationship between the allowable bound and the eigenvalues of the nominal system matrix is discussed. A design method for robust pole‐assignment is proposed. Examples are given to demonstrate the use of the proposed techniques.
