摘要:
The nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete frames with sidesway is governed by two effects: first, the nonlinearity of materials due to cracking and the plastic behavior of materials, and second, the nonlinearity of geometry caused by the second‐order deformation. These two effects may interact, and the whole phenomenon is known as the nonlinearity of geometry and materials.

摘要:
This paper studies the earthquake data which include the building seismic response data as well as the SMART‐1 array data, and use the technique of correlation and spectral analysis to develope some basic result for earthquake engineering and building system identification. In frequency domain analysis, the relative time delays as seismic waves propagate from basement to the roof are estimated as the optimum alignment of records. The ordinary and partial coherent spectrum are also employed to study the correlation of building input/output data. In time domain analysis, the input/output correlation study as well as the input signal management provide data of optimum input for system identification. The SMART‐1 array data was also used to study the spatial‐time correlation of seismic waves. This study can provide information for both building system identification and spatial variation of seismic waves.

摘要:
The dynamic behavior of a clearance‐type mechanical seal is investigated. Five degrees of freedom are considered for its motion. The seal is used for a fixed rotor with a floating stator. For small oscillation it is shown that the axial motion is not coupled with the other modes, two for radial modes and the remaining two for angular modes. The axial motion in this situation is always stable. The design variables are grouped to form five meaningful dimension‐less parameters. Based on these parameters, the condition for stable seal motion is presented with the Routh stability criterion. It is found that the major factors affecting the seal stability are the ring dimension, the inertia capacity and the load capacity. The dynamic response of the seal ring is also presented by solving the nonlinear equations for five degrees of freedom.

摘要:
The linear convective instabilities of a fluid layer of binary alloy, cooled from above and consequently frozen at the bottom, are considered. Due to the density jump across the freezing interface, some light material is then released and diffused by pressure and composition gradients. As a result of a low cooling rate, the effect of thermal buoyancy is insignificant and the freezing interface advances upward at a slow speed by accumulating the solidified binary alloy. As Schmidt numberPLapproaches infinity, instabilities set in stationarily at the marginal state. Cellular convective modes are possible, provided a destabilizing compositional profile occurs in the fluid layer, while morphological modes, associated with non‐cellular convection, require a constitutional supercooling near the freezing interface. In the absence of a constitutional supercooling, morphological modes are not important and cellular convective modes become dominant.

摘要:
Three different on‐line computer control methods, namely the identification and optimizing control technique, the direct design method and the digital form of P‐I‐D control, are applied to control the response of a double pipe heat exchanger. The relative merits of the methods are studied and discussed.

摘要:
A transfer admittance is treated as a two‐terminal network driven by cascaded dependent sources. By complex‐curve fitting, each of the four admittances of a conventional two‐port model can be approximated over a wideband with a rational function of frequency. A SPICE2‐acceptableR‐L‐Ctwo‐port model can then be derived by applying continued fractions to the rational functions. Examples are included to demonstrate the applications of this method.

摘要:
Charge‐temperature, modified from bias‐temperature, technique is presented for the investigation of the interface properties of Al‐SiO2‐Si (P) MOS capacitors. By using this technique, the change of interface trap states was found to be related to the treatment of charge‐temperature agin gand consequently the distribution of the mobile charges inside the oxide. An equivalent equation is expressed for the evaluation of interface trap states from the measured C‐V data. In addition, a two‐region model describing the distributions of the mobile charges of the capacitor after various charge‐temperature agings is proposed for the experimental observations. And the fitting results indicate that the effective Debye length due to interface trap states is about 20 Å.

摘要:
In the recent research, we have shown the intimate relationship between the state trajectory sensitivity of a linear uncertain system and the normality of the system matrix. Utilizing this property, we introduce two different indices of the normality of matrices as the basis and propose two new methods for the synthesis of low sensitivity linear state feedback regulators. In addition to the description of the background theory, the two new methods are respectively applied to practical and academic design examples for illustration. Finally, computer simulations verify the effectiveness of the design methods.

摘要:
The fundamental solutions required in boundary element analysis‐of torsionai problems of nonhomogeneous transversely isotropic media are derived in this paper. The elastic constants of the nonhomogeneous medium are assumed to be variables as functions of cylindrical coordinates in the formsrαexp (λz) andrα(z+c)β. The displacement resulting from an axisymmetric ring of tangential forces applied in the interior of a infinite space and of a half‐space are obtained. The effects of nonhomogeneity are compared and discussed.
