The stress relaxation of a low‐crystallinity type thermoplastic elastomer (TPR), 1,2‐syndiotactic polybutadiene, was studied. By using the continuous and intermittent stress relaxation method, the Co60r‐ray irradiated samples were tested from 30°C to 106°C under air, nitrogen or oxygen atmosphere. The relative stress relaxation curve of this low crystallinity kind of elastomer can be expressed by two Maxwellian decay terms.

In this paper we examine the relationship between the state trajectory deviation caused by system parameter variation and the normality of the system matrix for autonomous linear time‐invariant systems. Starting from two rational definitions of the state trajectory deviation, we derive upper bounds for the state trajectory deviation. All the results developed indicate that the normality of the system matrix is the dominant factor in the trajectory sensitivity to the system parameter variation.

The problem of trajectory sensitivity considered in the literature was restricted to the continuous‐time systems. Some of the criteria provided in previous work (9, 10) are extended to the discrete‐time control systems. Two methods based on theZ‐domain design technique are developed to overcome the difficulty of obtaining the variations of control due to the changes of system parameters. The obtainedZ‐domain controllers are particularly suitable for implementation on a microprocessor or digital computer.

A method is proposed for transforming a continuous‐time state equation,x(t)=Ax(t)+Bu(t), to a discrete‐time state equation,x[(k+1)τ]=ø(τ)x(kτ)+B(τ)u(kτ). It is based on expanding the matrix exponential exp (Aτ) into a shifted matrix Chebyshev series. An example is given to demonstrate the superiority of the method over other methods.

Communication security is getting more and more important. Although the encryption of digitized speech is very attractive, direct scrambling of the analog speech waveforms continues to be an important approach due to a strong desire for the use of existing telephone networks with standard telephone bandwidth at acceptable speech quality and cost. In this paper, a new approach for analog speech scrambling, a Direct Sequence Voice Scrambling (DSVS) scheme, is proposed, in which the spread spectrum concept is borrowed but combined with a newly developed bandwidth reduction technique. The system design, performance analysis, practical considerations and simulation results are presented in detail in this paper. The analysis indicates that the DSVS scheme can provide the following advantages: small residual intelligibility, high degree of security, small bandwidth expansion, no time delay and only slight degradation of speech quality.
