Crack width and crack spacing in concrete flexural members are affected by two parameters, namely, the bond stress between the steel and concrete, and the effective concrete area in tension. This paper presents a statistical study applying dimensional analysis and regression analysis to existing test data to evaluate these two parameters as well as the crack spacing and crack width. It is found that the crack spacing is strongly dependent on the diameter of reinforcing bars and the reinforcement ratio. It is also found that a reduction of steel stress should be considered in calculating the crack width. Based on the results of this study, equations are developed for the calculation of crack width in reinforced and prestressed flexural members.

The unsteady and steady state Graetz problems of the developed laminar annular flow of non‐Newtonian power law fluid with constant wall temperature are studied by instant‐local similarity method and local similarity method, respectively. The approximate solution is very accurate for small axial distance and small time. The effects of the ratio of radius, viscous dissipation and flow index on the heat transfer rate are demonstrated with numerical solutions.

A grain‐boundary trapping model, which modifies the trapping theories Proposed by Seto and Baccarani et al., is proposed to explain the electrical transport properties of polycrystalline silicon films. The trapping capability of grain‐boundary traps, the average carrier concentration, and the width of depleted‐layer in the space‐charge region have been carefully considered and so the theory can be applied to polycrystalline silicon films of both small and large grain‐size. When three sets of experimental data with different grain sizes are compared to the theoretical curves, a good agreement is obtained.

A new theory, based on the concept of formally adjoint operator, is proposed to construct a variational formulation for a linear field problem, interior or exterior, with Dirichlet, Neumann, and continuity conditions. When our result is applied to the interface problem, a useful variational expression, which competes with integral equation formulation in its capability of reducing the problem dimensionality, can be obtained. The usefulness of this novel theory is demonstrated through its application to electrostatics. Three examples are also included to confirm its validity.

Resistor‐Capacitor, abbreviated asRC, networks are widely used in discrete as well as integrated circuits. Both resistors and capacitors are functions of temperature, especially, the capacitors. For many applications, it is desired to temperature‐compensate theRCnetworks. In this paper, a technique is introduced to temperature‐compensateRCnetworks that are composed of mutually independent parts. An experiment is performed to check validity of the theory. And the experimental results agree well with the theory.

A statistical approach to analyze the errors of a digital control system due to the finite wordlength employed in a digital controller is presented. It shows how one could determine the wordlength to satisfy a prescribed performance requirement. An example is included for illustration.
