摘要:
Nearshore circulation, produced by a wave‐induced radiation stress gradient, forms different circulation patterns under different wave characteristics and topographical conditions. A more general equation was deduced on the orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system to unify the diversities among related theories and to investigate the nearshore circulation on an arc‐shaped coast. The results show that circulation patterns depend on the flow torque factor which is in turn determined by both the wave characteristics and the topographical conditions. Due to the differences of this torque factor, the straight coast and the arc‐shaped coast will produce different circulation patterns.

摘要:
A nonlinear finite element procedure for cable system analysis is presented in this paper. Both geometrical and material nonlinearities are taken into account. The nonlinear stress‐strain relationship proposed by Jonatowski and Birnstiel is adopted for describing the elasto‐plastic behavior of cable material. The ultimate carrying capacity and inelastic structural behavior of several cable systems are examined in this study. Conditions of loading, unloading and reloading, slackness and rupture of cable are also discussed. For nonlinear computation, the Newton‐Raphson method is utilized. A stable, fast computation algorithm with two iteration loops (elastic solution loop and material loop) is set up for large displacement elasto‐plastic analysis of cable systems. Numerical results show good agreement with previous studies.

摘要:
The effects of salt water with 0.5 percent nitric acid on fatigue crack propagation in 2024‐T3 aluminium alloy are studied experimentally. First, the plastic zone size ahead of the crack tip is measured. It is found that the plastic zone size as well as the closure stress in corrosion fatigue is smaller than that in ordinary fatigue. Secondly, the crack propagation rate of corrosion fatigue is much higher than that of ordinary fatigue due to the creation of microcracks ahead of the main crack. Thirdly, the effective stress range governs the crack propagation rate in both ordinary and corrosion fatigue.

摘要:
Fatigue life prediction of sheet specimens of 2024‐T3 aluminium alloy subjected to cyclic bending and a corrosive environment is achieved by Monte Carlo simulation in which three steps are carried out. Firstly, the crack distribution function and crack size distribution function are obtained by experiments. Secondly, the stress distribution and the interaction of cracks as well as the crack propagation rate is found by dislocation functions. Thirdly, a coalescence criterion is proposed to predict the formation of cross surface cracks. The predicted results agree well with experimental results.

摘要:
A strategy for the performance prediction and economic evaluation of an ORC (organic Rankine cycle) system for power conversion is studied. Different assumptions and system boundaries are used to understand the constraints of the boundaries as well as their effects on the evaluation results. A series of methods, including cost estimation, operation’ research, sensitivity analysis and optimal design of heat exchangers, is employed in evaluating this thermal to power conversion system. It is found that the resultant variations in the economic evaluation, no matter what economic index is used, are mostly depending on the input parameters and the unpredictable variables at the preliminary design stage. The analysis strategy, the detailed procedures as well as the computer programs, is presented with a 400°F, 2.5 ×107Btu/hr flue gas recovery case as an illustration. This study shows a large variation of payback period ranging from 5 to 15 years, depending on different assumptions, operating conditions, and system boundaries. This analysis recommends a more conservative approach to evaluate an energy recovery project to avoid an inappropriate judgement of an engineering design project.

摘要:
A solution of the extended Graetz problem with prescribed wall heat flux and viscous dissipation in a semi‐infinite axial region of a tube is obtained by functional analytic methods. The energy equation is split into a set of partial differential equations to obtain a self‐adjoint formulism. Then, an algebraic characteristic equation of the eigenvalue problem for an arbitrary velocity profile is obtained by an approximation method inL2[0, 1]. In addition, a backward recursive formula for calculating the expansion coefficients of the solution is developed.

The slope‐deflection method is a well‐known method used for the analysis of continuous beams and frames. One of its major tasks is to determine the relative displacement between two ends of each member or its chord rotationR(= ?/L).The paper presents a refined rapid method of computing chord rotation or rigid‐body rotation of each member by combining the results of several single degree‐of‐freedom rigid‐body displacements. Some supplementary descriptions and applications of the virtual‐work method in accordance with the above method were also presented.

摘要:
The bench scale experiment consisted of a series of plexiglass ducts into which a mixture of air and water was introduced through an atomizing nozzle. Several adiabatic air‐water runs were performed with instrumentation to measure dry air velocity, local two phase wall static pressure, mass velocity and mass transfer coefficient of. entrainment and deposition. The spectrum of air‐water test variables includes a range of fluid velocities, mixture qualities and test section length. The results may provide further insight for characterization of the air‐water flow field in the duct under transient conditions.

摘要:
Functional analytic methods have been applied to the analysis of the extended Graetz problem with prescribed wall flux and viscous dissipation between parallel plates. First, the non‐self‐adjoint elliptic energy equation is decomposed into a set of first order partial differential equations to obtain a self‐adjoint formulism. Next, the induced eigenvalue problems are solved by applying an approximation method in a Hilbert space, and an algebraic characteristic equation is obtained. In addition, the expansion coefficients of the solutions on upstream and downstream regions can be explicitly obtained and unnecessary to match at the entrance.
