摘要:
The present study examined 10 variables for their importance in mediating maternal adjustment to the stress of a child's hospitalization as measured by the State scale of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Hopkins Symptom Checklist The results showed significant mediating effects for the Trait scale of the StateTrait Anxiety Inventory, a self-report of coping, and socioeconomic status Level of trait anxiety was the single best predictor of stress for both criterion measures.

摘要:
The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of anxiety of mothers with children in pediatric intensive care units with different types of visitation policies, both structured and individualized Forty subjects were obtained from two children's hospitals A comparative research design was used Data showed that mothers who experienced individualized visitation had significantly lower anxiety scores (p<005) than mothers who experienced structured visitation Findings also revealed that mothers viewed their child's illness as less severe when individualized visitation was permitted as opposed to structured visitation.

摘要:
Although the impact of a handicapped child on parents is acknowledged by professionals, the experiences and needs of the child's grandparents are often overlooked Grandparents experience many of the same reactions as the child's parents, including stress, depression, grief, and uncertainty about the future However, grandparents have less access than parents to the information and supports that would help them adjust to their grandchild's handicap and to be of assistance to the family This article describes a model for workshops that address grandparents' information and peer support needs and written materials developed for grandparents and professionals.

摘要:
This descriptive study examined parental perceptions of postdischarge behavioral changes in infants hospitalized for short-term treatment of respiratory problems The sample consisted of 50 infants, aged 6 weeks to 12 months, who were hospitalized due to respiratory problems Parents were interviewed in the home setting within 48 hours of the infants' discharge from the hospital Resulta of the study indicated that behavioral changes in infants and changes in the parent-infant interaction were frequent after short-term hospitalization The findings also provide direction for intervention in reducing parental anxiety through provision of support and anticipatory guidance to parents before the discharge of their infant from the hospital.

摘要:
Families of high-risk or handicapped young children (0-5 years) often require the services of multiple commumty agencies SearchLine, a computerized directory of community services, was developed by Project IINTACT to assist parents and professionals in locating and accessing appropriate resources Educational, health, and social service agencies that provide services to families as well as to children are included in the data base Individualized family/child needs for specific services are accommodated by SearchLine because it allows descriptors that are related to language, handicapping condition, services desired, and the child's age to be considered together by the computer when it generates a list of appropriate community resources.
