摘要:
At Winnipeg's Children's Hospital Television (CHTV), there was concern that the closedcircuit alternative television station was not realizing its full potential in helping to meet the special needs of the adolescent and native Canadian patients Consequently, CHTV hired workers to produce programming targeted at these two groups This article documents the underlying philosophy and structure of this programming It also discusses how other children's health care institutions might adapt this kind of programming to suit their own groups with special needs.

摘要:
Play reveals how well or poorly children are coping with stresses Simultaneously, play can influence the balance between affect and cognition as well as between children and their environments Play is a process by which children can control contingencies and affect outcomes It is unstructured play that particularly permits children to control events, ideas, and relationships This article provides a locus of control ratlonale for unstructured play in hospital settings and presents implications for adults' roles in young children's play that enhance internal perception of control.

摘要:
Cases of child sexual abuse are being identified with increasing frequency in pediatric health care settings Medical practitioners, however, often report being unprepared to offer the psychological and protective service assessments these cases require in addition to medical evaluation and treatment An interdisciplinary model for sexual abuse assessments is described Three components--emergence response consultative services, and a specialty clinic--are outlined Special problems which arise in the assessment of sexual abuse in the health care setting are discussed These revolve the role of medical evidence, stereotyping of sexual abuse victims, and impediments to child protection The implications of the increasing demand for sexual abuse services for the training of new professionals are considered.

摘要:
The relationship between premature children experiencing a stressor event and parents experiencing chronic sorrow was studied Data indicated that the subjects experienced feelings of loss/grief and fear when their premature child experienced the stressor events of illness, surgery, medical and behavioral problems, chronic illness, and day care, as well as when another child surpassed their child developmentally The subjects offered in-depth feedback directed to professionals to assist them in coping These data may help professionals to become aware of the emotional responses of parents of premature children and to assist them in copmg with their needs/concerns, preventing major adjustment and psychosocial problems for both the child and parents.
