The effect of irrigation given at various cumulative pan-evaporation levels (CPE) (50, 75 and 100 mm) and three depths of irrigation water (IW) (20, 30 and 40 mm per irrigation) in Bangalore was studied. The irrigation at four IW/CPE ratios (1.0, 0.50, 0.30 and 0.25 mm, with 30 mm depth of irrigation water) and three nitrogen levels (0, 100 and 200 kg N/ha/year) was also studied. Results revealed that irrigation at 50 mm CPE with 30 mm depth of irrigation gave the optimum herb and oil yield and the other experiment showed that geranium has to be irrigated at 0.50 IW/CPE ratio and supplied with 100 kg N/ha/year for achieving high yields. Content and quality of oil were not affected by irrigation and levels of nitrogen.

The essential oils obtained by steam distillation ofOriganum compactumandO. majorana, which were grown in Morocco, were examined by gas chromatography to determine their major constituents. The major constitutents ofO. compactumwere carvacrol (49.52%), p-cymene (21.22%) and γ-terpinene (14.21%), while the major constituents of theO. majoranawere linalool (32.68%) and terpinen-4-ol (32.30%). The oils, dried whole plants, and aqueous extracts derived from the leaves were examined for their antimicrobial activities on molds, yeasts and bacteria. The Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) was determined in every case. A total inhibition (100%) was obtained with theO. compactumoil at the concentration of 4 ppm on all the microbial species, whileO. majoranaoil totally inhibited yeasts and lactic acid bacteria at a concentration of 5 ppm. Aqueous extracts of the two plants were less inhibitory than their essential oils. The entire plants were also inhibitory to some strains of yeasts, molds and bacteria, andO. compactumwas more inhibitory thanO. majorana.

摘要:
Dynamic headspace (DHS), steam distillation (SD) and simultaneous distillation-solvent extraction (SDE) methods were compared as to recovery and other criteria in the isolation of propolis volatiles. Concentrates of these volatiles were analyzed by GC/MS. High yield, short experimental time, minimal solvent use for routine work, strong representative odor and small concentration factor proved the SDE as the most suitable method.

摘要:
Six samples of the essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of stems and leaves ofZingiber spectabilewere analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The mean oil yields were 0.027% for the leaves and 0.01% for the stems. The oils contained homogeneous qualitative compositions with high percentages of monoterpene hydrocarbons. The major components of the leaf and stem oils were α-pinene (7.44–11.42% and 10.78–13.69%), β-pinene (35.85–49.35% and 23.52–26.17%) and β-phellandrene (16.59–18.45% and 23.11–38.05%), respectively.

The water-distilled essential oils ofThymbra sintenisiiBorn, et Aznav. subsp.isauricaP.H. Davis andOriganum leptocladumBoiss., both Turkish endemic species, were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-two compounds were characterized in the oil ofT. sintenisiissp. isaurica representing 96.64% of the oil, while 29 compounds were characterized inO. leptocladumoil representing 92.80%. The major components ofT. sintenisiioil were carvacrol (39.01%), p-cymene (26.38%) and γ-terpinene (12.68%). The oil ofO. leptocladumalso contained p-cymene (47.09%) and carvacrol (14.61%) as major components along with borneol (10.80%).

The leaf oils ofJuniperus indicaBertol. of Nepalese origin have been analyzed by GC/MS. The oils were dominated by sabinene (19.4–31.3%), β-thujone (4.5–25.8%), terpinen-4-ol (3.7–13.0%) and trans-sabinyl acetate (7.6–24.3%).

摘要:
The leaf oils ofSatureja odora (Gris.)Epl. And S. parvifolia (Phil.) Epl. (Lamiaceae), two endemic species of Argentina, were investigated by GC and GC/MS. Both species showed great difference in their composition, the main compounds being pulegone (61.5%) in S. odora and carvacrol (34.0%), carvacryl acetate (14.7%), p-cymene (14.0%) and γ-terpinene (11.3%) in S. parvifolia.

The essential oil ofMentha arvensisL. var.piperascensMalinv. growing in Cuba has been analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Twenty-one compounds were identified, of which menthol (51.68%), menthone (26.08%) and menthyl acetate (10.55%) were the major constituents.

The essential oil ofNepeta nudassp.albiflorawas prepared by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC/MS. Nineteen components were identified acconnting for 98.5% of the oil. The major constituents found were nerolidol (31.7%), 1,8-cineole (29.1%) and spathulenol (14.4%).
