Water distilled essential oil from the dried herbal parts ofThymus longicaulisC. Presl. var.subisophyllus(Borbas) Jalas was examined by GC/MS and some physico-chemical characteristics were also determined. Fifty-seven components representing 95.81% of die oil were characterized. The major components were found to be thymol (21.73%), borneol (15.84%) and p-cymene (15.39%).

The foliar oil ofMyrcianthes fragrans(Sw.) McVaugh (Myrtaceae), which was collected in Jamaica, was examined by GC/MS. It was found that the oil was dominated by limonene (55.99%) and α-terpineol (10.85%) with lesser amounts of 1,8-cineole (7.09%) and α-pinene (6.92%).

The essential oil ofHaplostichanthus johnsonii, isolated in 1.5–2% yield on fresh weight of leaves contained 2,3,4,5-tetramethoxyallylbenzene (79%) and much lesser amounts of elemicin (5.9%). The remainder of the oil was accounted for mainly by sesquiterpene hydrocarbons of which α-copaene (5%) and β-elemene (2%) were the major contributors.
