摘要:
The production of essential oil fromPelargonium graveolensby plant tissue culture was investigated. Since the essential oil could not be obtained by callus culture, shoot culture was investigated. Sterile plants were induced from intact plants by using solid medium with appropriate hormones. Young shoots which also were obtained from sterile plants, were well cultivated in liquid medium by a method of agitating with air. The odor of the essential oil obtained from cultured shoots was found to be similar to that of the natural essential oil. Furthermore, the GC pattern of the volatile compounds in the essential oil from cultured shoots was similar to that of natural essential oil. The content of citronellol, a major constituent of naturalPelargoniumleaf oil, was slightly less in the cultured shoots than in the intact plant.

摘要:
The volatile oils from two new chemotypes ofCymbopogon flexuosuscollected in Odakali, India, were found to contain the rarely occurring (+)-α-bisabolol (37–40%) as the major component. They were found to be devoid of citral, the common important ingredient of lemongrass(C. flexuosus)oils.

摘要:
The chemical composition of an Italian oil of tarragon and two commercial oils of basil were examined by GC/MS. The oils, which were found to contain 19 known compounds, possessed estragole contents of 60%, 8.1% and 16.5%, respectively. The genotoxicity of each oil was evaluated by the Zimmermann test. The oil of tarragon was found to be genotoxic, but the two basil oils exhibited no sign of genotoxicity. The genotoxicity, or lack of it, could not be demonstrated clearly to have a direct relationship to the estragole content only.

摘要:
The solubility in water of essential oil constituents is directly related to their ability to penetrate the cell walls of a bacterium or fungus. The antimicrobial activity of essential oils is due to their solubility in the phospholipid bilayer of cell membranes. Terpenoids which are characterized by their lability have been found to interfere with the enzymatic reactions of energy metabolism.

摘要:
The composition of the essential oil fromHemizygia welwitschiitwigs was analyzed by means of GLC, LSC and GC/MS. The portion investigated so far consisted of 51% sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, 17% monoterpene hydrocarbons, 17% oxygen-containing sesquiterpenes, 6% oxygencontaining monoterpenes and 2% oxygen-containing, straight chain aliphatic compounds. The main components were β-caryophyllene (35%) andtrans-α-bergamotol (11%); this is the first reported occurrence of the latter compound in Lamiaceae. The composition of the oil ofH. welwitschiihas not been reported previously. Additionally, 30–40% diterpenes were detected in the total oil.

摘要:
The essential oilof Ageratum conyzoidesL. was analyzed by capillary gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The main constituents were ageratochromene (precocene II), 6-demethoxyageratochromene (precocene I) and β-caryophyllene, accounting for 77% of the oil.

摘要:
A comparison between the chemical composition of basil oils produced by distillation from fresh or dried leaves or extraction (using CH2Cl2at 25°C) from frozen or dried leaves was made. Although 19 compounds were characterized by GC/MS, the linalool, estragole, and eugenol contents were found to vary from 26.6–50.0%, 0.4–45.1%, and 2.5–27.0%, respectively.
