摘要:
ABSTRACT:A case history of a patient who died during the course of psychotherapy is initially presented in the form of an essay. Three therapeutic points (one related to the therapist's awareness of his anger toward the patient) are focused on in regard to working with the dependent, suicidal patient: the importance of being in touch with one's own anger toward the suicidal patient; the need to vary one's attitude and approach toward the dependent patient as he travels through different emotional phases; the importance of promptly involving significant friends and relatives in close observation of and relating to the acutely suicidal person. The emotions and psychodynamic factors in the author and other psychotherapists in response to the death of a patient are then examined, with particular emphasis on the therapist's allowing himself to mourn the personal loss.

摘要:
ABSTRACT:Law‐enforcement officers tend to look at traditional mental health services as being of little help to them in dealing with persons they encounter experiencing emotional emergencies. They are frequently skeptical that emergency mental health programs offer more than they deliver. Because of their traditional base as the primary, and frequently only, available emergency “field” service in a community, a mental health emergency program must have a cooperative working relationship with law enforcement to serve a community successfully. This paper describes the development and maintenance of such a relationship, designed to increase the police case‐finding po

摘要:
ABSTRACT:Workers' compensation laws provide death benefits for the survivors of those who commit suicide as a result of a work‐incurred physical or psychological injury. A study of claims resulting from suicidal acts reveals that included in the indicted work conditions were sudden changes in organization, conflict of loyalties resulting from work change, reactions to pain and suffering following a physical work injury, and the economic and status deprivation resulting from disability and unemployment. Those treating subjects whose jobs were the sources of stress failed to recognize their patients' desperation and urged them to stay at their job

摘要:
ABSTRACT:This paper proposes the adoption of a macro level analysis of cultural data by sociologists engaged in suicide studies. It is asserted that an examination of cultural factors contributing to individual stress and of cultural phenomena undergoing rapid change can lead to (1) a clearer understanding of the suicidal individual in his cultural context and (2) the development of suicide prevention programs aimed at alleviating the affects of societal stress. An analysis of the data relating to the correlation between the percentage of white women in the labor force and suicide rates is presented as an example of the application of the suggested approach.

摘要:
ABSTRACT:This report details some preliminary experience in the use of clinical models to develop scales for the estimation of suicide risk. A cohort was drawn for each of two models: Stable with Forced Change (N= 333) and Alienated (N= 566). A set of postulated discriminators regarding suicide was examined with negative results. Available data revealed 12 items for the Stable with Forced Change model and 20 items for the Alienated model that discriminated between the suicides and the nonsuicides at a .05 level of confidence. That only 4 items were common to both supports the idea that the models represent different populations in regard to vulnerability to suicide and thus require independent lethality scales.
