摘要:
AbstractExisting models for describing optimal ordering policies for perishable inventory cast the problem as a multidimensional dynamic program, the dimensionality being one less than the product lifetime in periods. An approach developed in previous work takes explicit account of outdating in the single period model. Formulas for the expected quantity of any new order which will outdate are developed for the case where the demand has a stationary Erlang distribution. A modified version of the one period model is shown to yield a reasonable approximation to the stationary optimal policy.

AbstractA method is presented to locate and allocatepnew facilities in relation tonexisting facilities. Each of thenexisting facilities has a requirement flow which must be supplied by the new facilities. Rectangular distances are assumed to exist between all facilities. AbstractThis paper develops and illustrates an approximate approach for analytically assessing the impacts on both costs and service of consolidation of repair facilities. The repair facilities are two echelon generalizations of the classical repairmen problem in which two types of failures, say major and minor, can occur, each type requiring repair at a different echelon: The questions addressed are the reductions possible in spares, repairmen, and service rates due to the consolidated system's increased efficiency, as well as the physical separation between the users and the consolidated repair facility that is economical. The method of analysis is based upon asymptotic approximations developed for the repairmen problem, valid when the number of operational equipments is large (greater than 50); it is helpful since it provides a tractable means for predicting the steady‐state performance of the decentralized and consolidated installations as a function of the many parameters involved without having to resort to an exhaustive computation of all the exact steady‐state probabilit

AbstractA dynamic and nonstationary model is formulated for a firm which attempts to minimize total expected costs over a finite planning horizon. The control variables are price and production. The pricepand the demand ζ are linked through the relationship ζ = g(p) + η, where g(p) is the riskless demand curve and η is a random variable. The general model allows for proportional ordering costs, convex holding and stockout costs, downward sloping riskless demand curve, backlogging, partial backlogging, lost sales, partial spoilage of inventory, and two modes of collecting revenue. AbstractA truncated cube, by which we mean the convex hull of a subset of the vertices of the unit cube, has an outer polar whose facets are a subset of the facets of the octahedron (the outer polar of the cube). AbstractA problem in (0, 1) hyperbolic programming is formulated and solved by the use of branch and bound methods. Computational results are presented including a comparison among several branching rules. Heuristic methods for quickly finding relatively good feasible solutions are presented and tested. The problem finds application in the scheduling of common carriers.In the solution of the main problem, a subproblem is identified and solved. A geometric analogue is presented, which allows an interesting interpretation of the subproblem. The subproblem itself finds application in the design of gambles.

AbstractThis paper introduces an extension of the v. Neumann model of an expanding economy. In addition to the conventional nonnegative input and output matricesA1, B1representing technology, two matricesA2, B2represent socio‐political evaluations and show that there exist solutions to the 4‐matrix model. The proof is based on an extension of a constructive proof given by O. Morgenstern and G. L. Thompson. It is shown that this proof is valid only under an additional assumption. The transformation of v. Neumann models (taking consumption into account) into 1 or 2 games is shown and adds an additional condition to M. Morishima's model to guarantee a solution. The equivalence of the v. Neumann model to a maximization problem under a (efficiency) constraint is presented. It is shown that E. Malinvaud's maximality and efficiency criterion ‐ if based on the same assumptions (model) ‐ are equivalent and specify the assumptions which will make the MT‐model efficient. AbstractThe robustness of the assigned prior distribution in a Bayesian estimation problem is examined. A Bayesian analysis for a stochastic intensity parameter of a Poisson distribution is summarized in which the natural conjugate is assigned as the prior distribution of the random parameter. The sensitivity analysis is carried out by assuming the existence of a true prior which is different in form from that of the assigned prior distribution. By using mean‐squared error as a measure of performance, the ensuing Bayes decision function is compared to the corresponding minimum variance unbiased estimator. AbstractThe regenerative method for estimating parameters in a simulation requires the simulator to estimate the ratio of two means. Five point estimates and four confidence intervals for this ratio have been computed for three stochastic simulations. The jackknife method appears to be the most promising for both point and interval estimation.
