Hauterivian;c.‐120 million years) of Surrey; it is the earliest described termite and social insect.Valditemesis referred to the extinct subfamily Cretatermitinae of the family Hodotermitidae, previously known only from a single specimen (Cretatermes carpenteri Emerson, 1967) from the Ceno‐ manian (c.‐95 m.y.) of Labrador.Valditermesrepresent a more generalized condition thanCretatermesand may be the ancestor ofCretatemes. Results from rearing experiments using excised leaf cultures suggest thatauriculaehas strong host‐plant preferences; it may have originated from a montane region in E

摘要:
AbstractHalictophagus silwoodensissp.n. is described and distinguished from the unique holotype ofH.curtisii, the only other member of the genus known from Britain. All stages of the life history are described. Percentage parasitism exceeding 60%, and superparasitism by one or both sexes of strepsipteron, are recorded, with up to three parasitoids developing successfully in a single host individual.
