AbstractBiosystematic analysis incorporating abundant new field data from many parts of the Neotropics has led to an ordered revision of the mimetic ithomiine generaMelinaeaandMechanitis.The various polytypic species of these general probably served as prime movers for the differentiation of other mimetic butterflies in Quaternary forest refuges. The revisions are presented in the form of supplements to the works of Richard M. Fox on these genera, with analyses based on his divisions. Seven species (or monophyletic species‐groups) and sixty‐three well‐differentiated geographic subspecies (six of these described here for the first time) are recognized inMelinaea.Specimens are illustrated which demonstrate intergradation between refuge‐derived subspecies. Five species and fifty‐two differentiated subspecies are recognized inMechanitis, whose members are more abundant and gregarious, more plastic, and apparently more vagile than those ofMelinaea, resulting in fewer clear‐cut mimetic associations, more extensive blurring of differentiation patterns, and apparently fewer incipient biological species in this genus than

AbstractThe neotropical genusColyphus (= Cleronomus and Clerosoma)is redefined to include sixteen species in four species‐groups as follows:beltoides‐group,beltoidessp.n.,strongylioidesspa.,rasilissp.n.;signaticollis‐group,signaticollisSpinola,gracilis Gorham (ex Clerosoma), echinatusspn.,prolatus sp.n.,devexussp.n.,stramineussp.n.;cylindricus‐group,cylindricus(Gorham) (exEnoclems), irazusp.n.,artusspa.,guptaisp.n.;copiipictusgroup,copiipictussp.n.,hispidussp.n.,varius(Gorham) (exPlacoptents). AbstractMore than fifty species of closely related glyptothripine Thysanopterahave been described from leaf litter at one site in southern Brazil. The ecological and evolutionary significance of this species swarm are discussed, and the relationships of the New World glyptothripine genera are reassessed. A key is produced to the world genera of the Glyptothripini, and a check list is provided to the fifteen genera and 119 species from the New World. Abstract.The tribe Almeidini Carayon, 1972 is recorded from Australia andAustralmeidagen.n. described. The brachypterous male and female of the typespeciesLasiochilus derrickiGross, 1954 are redescribed and the macropterous male and female and the submacropterous female are newly described. One possibly conspecific specimen is recorded from Kerevat, New Britain. The structure of the male and female internal reproductive systems reinforces the external characters used by Carayon (1972a) as indicating close affinity of the Almeidini to the Xylocorini. The genusAlmeidaDistant is recorded from Australia and the genuseLimppomanusDistant from New caledonia.
