摘要:
AbstractCultures of a number of species of mealybug were reared under a variety of controlled environments and the effects of factors such as temperature, relative humidity and host plant on the morphology of the adult females examined. It was found that temperature had the greatest effect. The lengths of the appendages and setae, and the numbers of wax producing pores and ducts, vary over a wide range within a single species when specimens are reared at different temperatures. The relationship with temperature is generally linear, with size and pore numbers increasing with decreased temperature. However, some characters, noticeably the numbers of tubular ducts, reach their highest values at an intermediate temperature. It is suggested that while variation in size is a direct response to temperature, other characters are influenced by size or by a combination of size and environmental factors acting independently. Rearing mealybugs under different environmental conditions in order to induce morphological variation is shown to be a useful technique for resolving difficult species complexes.

摘要:
AbstractTheMeteorusspecies of Australia and New Guinea are described, keyed and illustrated. Twenty‐three species are included of which the following eighteen are new to science:achterbergi, anicus, arrogator, depressus, gloriosus, josieas, laevigatus, lindae, obscurus, ottus, palmeri, pinguicornis, sedlaceki, sritus, strabismus, tarius, townesi, varicosus. Primary type‐material of five previously‐described taxa has been examined:antipodalisAshmead, bicolorSzépligeti, luteus(Cameron),trichogrammaeWilkinson, dumbletoniMuesebeck. A lecto‐type is designated forluteuswhich is transferred toMeteorusfromProtelus, bicoloris transferred toAridelusfromMeteorusanddumbletoniis placed in synonymy withicteric

摘要:
AbstractCharacters traditionally used to separate someAphidiusspecies commonly parasitizing pea and cereal aphids are shown to be more variable than previously supposed.Aphidius ervi, picipesandrhopalosiphi(Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae) were cultured and the variability of the numbers of antennal segments, sculpture on the anterolateral area of the petiole and the tentorial index were recorded. The number of antennal segments in each of the three species varied by four in males and by three in females. The numbers of ridges on the anterolateral area of the petiole ofA.rhopalosiphivaried widely from six to eighteen. The tentorial index range from 0.35–0.62, 0.34–0.54 and 0.35–0.60 forA.ervi, picipesandrhopalosiphirespectively, compared with previously published ranges of 0.30–0.40, 0.28–0.37 and 0.30–0.35.A.rhopalosiphianduzbekistanicuscannot be distinguished reliably by the wing‐vein length ratios pr

摘要:
AbstractThe Neotropical species ofDrapetisMeigen are reviewed, and eight new species are described:alimacula, from Trinidad;atrinervalis, from Bahamas;naevia, from El Salvador;onconeura, from Costa Rica;steyskali, from Mexico;stictica, from Jamaica;tibialis, from Panama; andtuberculata, from Costa Rica. A lectotype is designated forDrapetis divergensLoew;Drapetis intermediaSmith is newly synonymized withdivergensLoew. Two new species groups are described, thedivergensgroup and thenaicagroup. Two keys are provided: one distinguishing the Neotropical species ofDrapetis; the other distinguishingDrapetisMeigen,CrossopalpusBigot andElaphropezaMacquart.Drapetis flavicornisMelander, inermisMelander andzonalisCurran are assigned toElaphropezaMacquart, new combinations, and redescribed. The heretofore unknown male ofElaphropeza flavicornisis described.

摘要:
AbstractThe six species of Nepticulidae feeding on Cistaceae are placed inParafomoriagen.n.: the type‐specieshelianthemella(Herrich‐Schäffer),cistivora(Peyerimhoff),pseudocistivorasp.n.,liguricella(Klimesch),ladaniphila(Mendes) andtingitella(Walsingham). The genus occurs in central Europe and the mediterranean region. Full descriptions, including figures of genitalia, and details of biology are given and a key to the species is provided. A tentative phylogeny is discussed. Primary types have been checked, and five lecto‐types have been designated.Stigmella diniensis(Klimesch) is for the first time reported as feeding on Cistaceae, and redes
