AbstractA holistic model of health incorporates the spiritual dimension as a contributor to personal well‐being in the elderly. Spiritual experiences enhance a self‐perception of cumulative personal evolution over a lifetime, an integrating of past and present into a meaningful unity. They thus provide a wellspring of personal strength and healing energy against illness and adversity. The home health nurse plays a critical role in instituting holistic programs of care into the everyday lives of clients.

摘要:

AbstractThe community nurse's birth certificate home visit is a complex situation which requires simultaneous assessment and teaching interventions. The novice nursing student in a public health practicum is often unsure of how to accomplish these requirements during visits to well newborns. In response to this need, faculty designed a ten item card sort assessment technique for students to use on birth certificate calls. The method was evaluated as an objective, economical, and client‐centered means of acquiring information about the learning priorities of new mothers. Although the technique was originally designed for student nurses, it also has implications for the experienced community nurse's practice.

AbstractMany hypertensive clients whose blood pressures are not under control have demonstrated lack of understanding of the disease and their prescribed treatment. Feasible means of delivering health care teaching to hypertensive clients need to be identified and implemented if morbidity and mortality rates due to hypertension are to be diminished. Central to the theory of self care is the belief that man has the innate ability to care for himself. Utilizing the supportive education system of self care theory, the nurse assists the client with decision‐making, behavior control, and acquiring skills and knowledge.
