摘要:
Elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation are major problems today (Marshall, Benton, & Brazier, 2000). Most elder abuse occurs at home and is committed by spouses, children, or other family members. Abuse may go undetected until observant professionals intervene (AOA, 1998). Sometimes the abuse is a continuation of existing dysfunctional family dynamics. More often, however, the abuse is a result of changes brought about by an older person’s growing dependency and need for increased care.

摘要:
This article addresses local wound care in people with diabetes mellitus. An approach is proposed that uses wound depth and color to determine the goals of local wound treatment. Principles of cleansing, debridement, and the use of moisture retentive dressings are discussed. Infection, a significant problem in the patient with diabetes, is addressed as an essential part of local wound care in these patients.

摘要:
Advanced practice nurses (APNs) have not been widely used in home care, despite evidence of their effectiveness with a variety of patient groups. This study examined the use of the transitional model for home care patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The study found patients cared for by an APN-directed visit team had fewer nursing visits, rehospitalizations, and acute care visits. Depressive symptoms were also less, and functional abilities increased compared with patients cared for by a usual care model.
