摘要:
American therapeutic communities have changed significantly from their beginning at Synanon in 1958. While still adhering to basic principles and core practices, new perspectives, policies and procedures have been introduced. These include the recognition of co-morbidities, multiple substance abuse, the need for interdisciplinary teamwork, affiliation agreements, improved assessment techhques, greater professionalization, and the need to develop more accurate process and outcome measures of treatment success.

摘要:
Some blackouts experienced by alcoholics may fit the psychoanalytic theory of repression. The First Step in the Alcoholics Anonymous program is a technique to bring back into consciousness the painful experiences associated with episodes of intoxication. Recovery is stressful and demanding; without serenity and courage the concrete data of the First Step may be again repressed. Selective forgetting of one's powerlessness and inability to manage life then becomes the occasion for relapse.
