摘要:
Symptoms of Adult Children of Alcoholics/Addiction (ACOA) are reexamined using the interbehavioral systems approach. Behavioral patterns produced by parental punishment and deprivation that cause severe avoidance and escape responses are shown to convert into rules or rule-governed behavior. Considered, first, are different behavioral outcomes of aversive conditioning, focusing primarily on the ontology of avoidance responses. Second, theories of rule and meta-rule development account for retention of dysfunctional behaviors once they are learned. Conclusions provide a scientific direction for clinical practice and future research on ACOAs.

摘要:
This study compares Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoAs) with Non-ACoAS on current family relationships. Subjects included 437 participants who were divided into seven groups: Non- ACoA males; non-ACoA females, ACoA males, ACoA females, ACoA males who were alcoholic, ACoA females who were alcoholic and a group of ACoA females who were sexually abused. Participants completed the CAST Alcohol Screening Test, the Locke- Wallace Marital Adjustment Test, and a demographic questionnaire. Results indicated significant differences between the ACoA and Non- ACoA groups on comparative divorce rates, marital adjustment, and perception of the quality of the relationships with their spouses and their own children. ACoAs were also much more likely to marry someone from an alcoholic family system than Non-ACoAs.

摘要:
Social support especially from family members provides both direct and buffering benefits to individuals in recovery from addictions. At the same time alcoholic family dynamics have been identified as one of the major obstacles with which persons in recovery have to contend. This paper describes the intended and unintended effects of one approach to family involvement on inpatient addicts' perceptions o family support. Based on the data obtained in this study, it appears important to increase awareness of, the unintended consequences of efforts to involve families in residential programs.

摘要:
Increasing evidence suggests the presence of childhood sexual abuse in a growing number of alcohol and drug dependent clients; sexual abuse correlates with the diagnosis of dissociative disorder. Information and techniques are provided to assist counselors in identifying this dually-diagnosed population.

摘要:
The challenge of providing effective treatment to DUI offenders is addressed through the use of alumni as co-leaders. Through their ability to identify with clients' hostility and sense of victimization, the alumni, former DUI clients, provide role models for change and defuse authority issues in the group. Additionally, alumni suggested a format for treatment consisting of theme-oriented meetings focusing on various aspects of life in an attempt to raise issues of alcohol impact in indirect, nonpathologizing manner. Groups have proved quite successful in engaging DUI clients, encouraging abstinence and further treatment, and building a sense of community which supports motivation for change.

摘要:
The "Affective Contra-Attribution" method of alcoholism treatment consists of three stages: (1) an introductory psychotherapeutic stage; (2) psychedelic treatment with ketamine utilization: and (3) therapist led group discussion of the patients' psychedelic experiences. The stages of psychedelic treatment include psychotherapeutic dialogue with the patient within the context of the negative hallucinatory emotional experiences induced pharmacologically by subanasthetic ketamine doses in combination with bemegride and aethimizol. This method of treatment is compared to a more traditional form of therapy and the outcome indicates that the ACA mehod is more effective.
