摘要:
Meta-recovery, a model of recovery based on the principles of psychosynthesis, has been described as a process of moving beyond AA-based recovery through a synthesis of the addictive and recovering parts of the personality. Research with a group of eight recovering aiioholic womhn indicaks that employing he tbls of meta-recovery can result in a qualitative shift in recovery and movement toward a level of self-awareness, self-authorship, and self-expression beyond that experienced in AA. These changes own the opportunity for choice reading the continuing role of the fellowship of AA in long-term recovery for wanen.

摘要:
This article presents research and suggests that (a) an adaptive orientation is necessary to fully understand substance abuse, (b) personality variables are often instrumentally related to the onset and maintenance of addiction and have been shown to be a factor in treatment outcome as well. While researchers have underplayed the relevance of personality in this area, personality factors actually dominate treatment planning conferences and patient progress reviews. Thus, clinicians have not abandoned the role of personality in addiction treatment, simply because of the clinical utility such an approach brings to the treatment process.

摘要:
To explore alcoholics' nondrinking concerns, 169 males requesting treatment for alcoholism were asked to name (a) the one thing that they most wanted to accomplish (besides stopping drinking) that would bring them happiness. (b) the one: thing that they most wanted to get rid of (besides stopping drinking) that caused their life to be unhappy, and (c) to rate each kind of concern along several dimensions. They were also asked demographic and drinking-history questions about themselves. Coders devised categories into which to place the concerns, with the resulting taxonomy consisting of six major categories of positive concern; (Employment/financial, Interpersonal Relationships, Personal Characteristics, Education, Use of Free Time, and Housing/Living Arrangements) and five major categories of negative concerns (i.e., aversive objects or events that the person wanted to get rid of, prevent, or avoid, including Personal Characteristics, Interpersonal Relationships, Employment/Financial, Housing/Living Arrangements, and Use of Free Time). Implications of alcoholics' nondrinking concerns for improving treatment are discussed.

摘要:
This paper reports on two surveys commissioned by the State of Missouri, Division of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, to begin the assessment of state supported treatment programs. The first survey, commissioned in 1989, was a retrospective study conducted a full year after the sample frame was discharged from treatment. The study was based primarily on client self-reports gleaned from a telephone survey. The process and products of this study led to substantial changes in the methodology employed in an ongoing three-year prospective study commissioned in 1991. This paper will discuss the results of the original survey, detail how this experience has shaped the prospective study, arid briefly compare preliminary data, particularly response rates and the representativeness of the two samples.

摘要:
Theories of the etiololrv of alcoholism have implications for treatment intervention. Theories generate hypotheses which are tested by research and, in turn, develop knowledge to guide treatment and practice. This article discusses the Alcohol Problems Model and integrates it with the concept of Personal Ractice Models. The important treatment implications are discussed.

摘要:
Sponsorship is an integral component of recovery from alcohol addiction; it is the bridge between mere sobriety and true recovery. Yet the nature-and the limits-of sponsorship need to be understood if it is to lead to recovery rather than eventual relapse.

摘要:
This study will examine the influence of, not only demographic characteristics of the respondents, but also the proximity to an alcohol/drug addict, the influence of havine children. on the willingness to live, near a substance abuse treatment system or the likelihood of hiring and renting to a recovering alcoholic or drug addict. The survey was conducted from January 11, 1992 to February 15, 1992. The survey was a random digit dial sample: stratified by neighborhood which yielded a sample size of 1,201. What was discovered is that age, race, gender, concern about alcohol or drug problems, proximity 10 an addict or alcoholic, as well as the belief in the effectiveness of treatment influenced the perceptions of alcoholism and/or drug addiction. In addition, other factors which affect the way an individual will view the issue of addiction to drugs and/or alcohol and the acceptance of a residential program are discussed. Recommendations for future research are suggested.
