摘要:
The problems of chemical dependency and family violence overlap both numerically and conceptually. The authors discuss general approaches to treatment of families with violence and chemical dependency. A specific assessment guide is provided to help chemical dependency counselors identify the exact nature of the relationship between these two variables. Six different situations are distinguished and treatment implications made for each.

摘要:
The educational aspects of treatment are not limited to the conveyance of information and knowledge. In the design of treatment plans, affective and practice areas of learning are included as well as the cognitive area. The authors examine and demonstrate how the three areas or domains of learning are present in treatment goals/objectives, activities, screening and evaluation. By acknowledging the interconnectiveness of therapy and education in client services, this paper discusses the importance of incorporating and documenting educational features in treatment plans. Such provisions. especially documentation, can act as the base to other education related treatment endeavors such as inservice staff training and family/community awareness programming.

摘要:
Elizabeth Kiibler-Ross has suggested five stages of reaction to loss through which terminally ill patients pass: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Although the adequacy of this schema has been challenged with regard to the dying, it does nonetheless seem to describe the response many persons have to significant loss. A particularly difficult loss is that experienced by the family of an alcoholic as the disease progresses. By applying Kubler-Ross's typology to the reactions of family members, both they and those who try to help them can come to a better understanding of their experiences and thus cope more successfully with an extremely difficult and painful situation.

摘要:
Research repons regarding the co-incidence of chemical dependency and psychological disturbances are reviewed. It is concluded that a high incidence of psychological disturbance exists in chemical dependency (alcohol and drug) treatment populations. A similar finding has been documented for chemical dependency problems among those receiving treatment for psychological disturbance. A rationale for the treatment of dual problem clients is presented. It is argued that maximal treatment effectiveness results from simultaneous attention to both psychological disturbance and chemical use problems.

摘要:
In a longitudinal study, 407 Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) members in selected high-status professions were alcoholics who had done no drinking for the past year. Some follow-up information was obtained on 400, and 362 were considered fully reinterviewed. The hard-to-locate, refusals and deceased proved no more likely to have relapsed than did others. Four-fifths of the reinterviewed subjects reported complete abstinence between interviews. Of those who relapsed, 27 drank less than once a year on average. Another 46 drank on five or more occasions. Initial interview factors associated with relapses between interviews for these 46 are presented. Three were still drinking when reinterviewed.

摘要:
Problem drinking among American lndian people is a subject of much concern. This article addresses the factors which have contributed to the attainment of sobriety among a sample of American Indian people. The findings of this study indicate that recognition and acceptance of drinking problems constitute the first phase of the recovery process. Sobriety itself is the second phase, and personal and social adjustment is the third phase. Those factors which contribute to the discontinuance of drinking and the maintenance of sobriety are highlighted.

摘要:
Alcoholism counselors are routinely challenged to make important clinical decisions based largely on interview data. This article describes how the J Chart can be used to uncover additional data which is often unavailable through an interview. Instructions for administration and guidelines for analysis of the J Chart are described. Four case examples are provided to demonstrate the method of analysis.
