摘要:
The relationship between head nurses and their staff nurses influences staff turnover rates and job satisfaction. In this article the author describes the measures taken by the management of Greater Southeast Community Hospital in response to an increasing turnover rate among staff RNs. In recognition of the head nurse role vis-d-vis attrition rates and job satisfaction, head nurses were upgraded to department head status and rigorous head nurse performance standards were developed. These standards required clinical expertise, managerial competence, and accountability. It is the author's contention that clinical practice and staff morale are directly related to a clearly defined head nurse role.

The establislimerit of a successful nurse-physician associated practice requires planning, patience, arid a willingness to take calculated risks. The nurse executive can lend credibility andsupport to the nurse in associatedpractice by understanding the concept, providing a climate for acceptance of such practices, arid by clarifyirig the role of the nurse associate in relation to other professionals in the organization. 摘要:
This article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of combining nursing quality assurance and research programs in clinical settings. The intended audiences and scopes of quality assurance and research differ, causing potential conflicts in combined programs. Such conflicts include the methods of disseminating findings, action taken on data obtained, analytic methods used, and issues of territoriality. However, advantages of combining these programs are great. Nursing research can be introduced into the clinical setting via quality assurance; resultant studies are more likely to be of direct clinical relevance; and results are more likely to be integrated into practice when programs are combined rather than separate. Combined programs are also cost efficient.

摘要:
The author reviews the literature on labor relations in hospitals, analyzing the opinions and actions of administrators as well as staff. She links collective organization among nurses with a new attitude toward nurses' professionalism, and concludes that health care organizations must accept the “new reality” of collective bargaining. The author further suggests that managers and staff adopt cooperative rather than adversarial roles in order to foster quality patient care and to meet future challenges.
