摘要:
Flexible scheduling and its impact on nursing are topics of growing interest among nurses. Described in this article is a flexible scheduling system developed by a surgical intensive care unit nursing staff around a core of 12%-hour work shifts. As a result of careful consideration andplanning, a master schedule, stafling guidelines, and a work agreement were prepared for a large department of nursing. Administrators of other departments of nursing implementing flexible scheduling should find this information useful.

摘要:
This article proposes that the personnel department could be of far greater assistance to nursing directors and hospital administrators than is commonly perceived. Although many of the nursing directors, hospital administrators, and personneldirectors polled by the authors expressed a desire for more support from the personnel department, their priorities concerning the degree of increased involvement differed. Analysis of the respondents' answers to questions regarding specific areas of administrative responsibility are discussed. Managers at all levels will find this article to be a fruirful basis for discussing those areas within which the personnel department could play an expanded role.

摘要:
What are the pros and cons of your hospital cooperating with a school of nursing by providing clinical experiences for students? This article discusses the human and material resources that must be available to provide the student with the maximum benefit from the experience. In addition to certain costs inherent in providing this type of support, the authors explore the advantages of having students in terms of recruitment potential, continuing education of staff, and staff satisfaction. Guidelines presented here will help you make a decision about starting a student clinical experience or enhance your management of an existing clinical experience program.

摘要:
An innovative managerial strategy-networking-used to establish and promote a nursing research program within three teaching hospitals in Boston is outlined in this article. Networking provides an opportunity for research andprogram development experts to share resources to meet common needs and goals. One of the advantages of a research network is that it can provide educationalofferings that will stimulate all levels of professional nursing staff independent of their research background. Results of a survey the network conducted to determine a citywide profile of nursing research needs are presented.

摘要:
Nurses responsible for quality assurance in ten metropolitan hospitals surveyed nurses from their institutions in an attempt to understand sluggish interest in quality assurance activities. The registered nurses surveyed agreed that involvement in quality assurance is an iniportant part of the professional nurse's role, but this belief did not often translate into positive attitudes toward nor participation in quality assurance activities.
